This is just so so so wrong.

An excerpt...

A CHILD welfare expert has recommended that abusive parents have access to doctors who are exempt from mandatory child abuse reporting laws.

This just boggles the brain. Now parents can take their child, that they abused, to a doctor who cannot report the abuse. :noidea:

PS Mods - I was not allowed to post in the other news section, is there a prohibition I don't know about?

This is amazing. Already in the US system - there is a problem with under-reporting by doctors and other caregivers. So many children at risk in a system that is just overloaded and not functioning well at all. I cannot imagine what kind of dr. would see suspected abuse and somehow agree not to report the abusers. That just boggles the mind.

The article does say that the parent is required to work with a team to cure their abusive behavior, or else they will be turned in The article also says that in cases of extreme abuse the parents would be turned in automatically.

I think the reasoning is that if the parents are afraid they will be turned in, they will not take their child to get the care they need. I wonder how many children get no treatment because the parents are afraid of being turned in?

This appears to be an attempt to get abusive parents, who otherwise would not take their children for medical care to do so. It is also an attempt to treat the abusive parents in an effort to stop the abuse.

But meanwhile, the abused child is still living with the abusive parent! I personally believe that one of the first steps to stopping abuse is admitting that you are an abuser, and removing yourself from situations which permit abuse. During rehabilitation, it is normal to relapse, and this is just horrendous when children are involved. For this reason I believe the parent and child should be seperated during the rehabilitation process, not living together.

If I'm not mistaken in the state of Ohio all health care professionals are required by law to report suspected cases of child abuse.

I would be interested in knowing what states and what doctors are exempt from this law.

This is the same mindset that leads to laws allowing 12 & 13 year old children to get abortions without informing the parents or informing the police about the rape of these young girls. Our society has lost it's collective mind!

Why discuss the topic if you don't read the article? The article is talking about AUSTRALIA.

I am Australian, but this issue is cross cultural. This issue is just symptomatic of a larger problem infiltrating society.

Do you think it is better for a child with a broken arm not to be taken to the doctor because the parents are afraid of being reported on?

The article says that the parents have to work with a team in order to overcome their abusive behavior...or they will be reported. In extremem cases they will be reported anyway.

This is an effort to address those children whose parents will not take their kids to the doctor if they know they will be turned in. This at least tries to combat the abuse at it's core...the parents behavior. While not perfect, it is better than nothing.

You are entitled to your opinion. Obviously, I share a different opinion to you. I think all children should get medical care AND not be living with an abusive parent. Those parents who you identify as the target, obviously have something to hide, and that in itselfs tells me that they should not be in the care of children.

I agree with you.

However, many kids do not get needed medical attention because the parents do not want to be turned in. So in these cases the kids are abused and get no medical attention either. How is that better? The kids still live with their parents, and get no medical attention.

I worry that this sends out a message that you can abuse your children, so long as it isn't excessive, and the doctors can't get you. That's what it feels like... a condoning of "moderate abuse".

From the point of view of the absued child, can you imagine being taken to the doctor and the doctor not helping you to escape it?

I just can't fathom what would happen if I was that doctor. If a parent brought a child before me that the parent has abused, I would not be able to send the child home with the parent.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
