Ok suzanne I want to get this right...those states that "voted for = disagree with homosexual marriage?" thats the states in red. "Voted against = agree with homosexual marriage?" thats the states in green.

I just want to be sure before I contact my reps. Maybe someone can read the top paragraph and see if you got what I did.

Dear Angel,

I know it gets confusing doesn't it. Here's what it means:

Basically the Senators are voting for the amendment to the Constitution to protect traditional marriage laws. They are voting to add a "clause" to the amendment that says that marriage is between one man and one woman "only". We want them to vote "FOR" this legislation. If your rep. is voting against the legislation, then you need to be mindful of this when it comes time for their next term, and vote them OUT, and somebody IN who will stand firm on this issue and vote accordingly.

So with that in mind, here's what the website states in regard to the voting:

The "cloture vote," as it is called, required 60 votes to bring debate to a close. Senators who support traditional marriage voted FOR cloture, while senators who support homosexual "marriage" voted AGAINST cloture. See below to see how your Senators voted and let them hear for you.

Green=voted for (good)

Red=voted against (bad)

The grey states had an even mix of senate votes, therefore the state did not have a majority vote as a whole, so that is why we need to check our own reps, to see how they each voted, and contact them accordingly.

I hope I explained this correctly, anybody else want to add anything?

What a crock. Again the "For us or against us" fallacy. Some of the Senators felt that amending the constitution wasn't the answer and they were right. It was always meant to be a state issue, congress just needs to pass laws limiting what the federal courts can preside over.

when state supreme judges start abusing their legal role and start redefining the constitution AGAINST the will of the people, AGAINST the origional intent, for the purpose of political gain or just plain being bullies, then it becomes necessary for the FEDERAL government to step in and do something about it.

since state judges are doing just that, a vote against ammending the constitution is a vote against us, because they're giving those judges carte blanche to do as they wish with no consequences.

when state supreme judges start abusing their legal role and start redefining the constitution AGAINST the will of the people, AGAINST the origional intent, for the purpose of political gain or just plain being bullies, then it becomes necessary for the FEDERAL government to step in and do something about it.

No, then it become necessary for congress to modify the law and limit the power of the federal judiciary to federal issues not state ones. Modifying the constitution for every single issue is not the answer. Read the corrspondence of the fonding fathers and you will find this.

No a vote against amending the constitution is a vote against amending it in this manner. Again read John McCain's comments, the real vote should be limiting what cases can be heard in federal court.

Whether you like it or not LadyC, the power to declare how marriage should be enacted was left up to the states. PERIOD.
