The Bible talks about works. What exactly are works? Feeding the hungry? Helping a friend?

To me, works are whatever we do for our fellow man; unselfish service, like Mother Theresa. Things that we do in His name, giving Him the glory. Of course, that's JMHO. :swordfightsmiles:

That sums it up nicely. :emot-hug:

Not just that but how we treat others and the influence we have to others.

I always feel like I'm never doing enough. I help people when the opportunity shows itself but I'm not flying to Haiti to rescue people. How do you know if you are doing enough to please God?

Doing the will of the Father in your life would be considered works. If God has you helping people, it is a work. If He has you praying for someone, it is a work. If He has you visiting the lonely, it is a work.

Joh 6:28-29 MKJV Then they said to Him, What shall we do that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.

--I think there are at least 2 distinct uses of "works" in scriptures.

--Those that are mentioned above, that like prayer, draw us near unto Him, and are effective

in growing better christians.

--And those that refer to the works of the law. In which case it would mean all the prescribed

ritual washings, prayers, abstinence s, sacrifices, and etc. by the Law of Moses from the

old covenant.

--Or at least my understanding, of course not getting into the "war" of works=salvation controversy.

That war sheds more of Christ's Blood than any. As witnessed by many posts.

I used to struggle with this one alot. What I have learned is this...the things the Lord wants you to do will be shown to you. I cannot fly to Haiti, there are others that are willing and wanting to do those kinds of things. I am more obliged to help in my community...with volunteering, or food bank donations. Every once in a while I come across someone who needs something that is a basic nessisity and I will give it.

I do good things not to earn my salvation but rather because i am saved i do good things. These good things would be loving Jesus through obedience to His word and the leadings of the Spirit.!
