Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Just wondering what peoples' take on this is, since there are plenty of adults that go astray...

Maybe it means generally; not in every case. Because there are cases of children trained well that depart, even raised Christian that depart no doubt...

Since no age limit is given, just "when they are old", it could mean that when they are have lived the life they had always wanted to live, they finally are quiet enough to hear God speaking to them and return to Him. It could also mean when they mature enough to know they really don't know anything, they begin to remember God. Scripture really does not go beyond what is stated, from what I have found.

I think you are reading too much into it. It says what it means.. the Lord God is our teacher. If children are raised to trust in God and always look to Him for guidance, then they will not go astray... but if the parent is the focus. Well.. the teachings of mankind has led to many evil things in the world because we ourselves are not teachers.

Matthew 23:10

And don't let anyone call you 'Teacher,' for you have only one teacher, the Messiah.

so the proverb says at the end of the statement "and when he is old, he will not depart from it.".. this is a promise from God. There is no, if, or, but or maybe anywhere.

In addition to my comment above, you may want to consider this as well..

Deuteronomy 6

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

See it is the Lord who teaches not us. We just assist the children to look towards God. They are never too young to learn either. I have very small children in the sunday school program.. they are so receptive to Him!

Proverbs should not be considered iron-clad promises. They are general observation on how life works.

This is not a promise, this is a "wise saying". I principle if you would. There are more of them in Proverbs.

Look at 10:27

The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.

We have all known some very God fearing people that have died what we would call "early" and some very bad people that have lived to be 90.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

      Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
