Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, made an image of gold, which he set up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. He called his officials to come to the dedication of the image which he had set up. Then the herald cried aloud,

Jesus once went to Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house, and wanted no one to know it, but he couldn't escape detection. For a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet. Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician. She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter. But Jesus said to her, "Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." But she answered him, "Yes, Lord. For even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." He said to her, "For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter."

She went away to her house, and found the child laying on the bed, with the demon gone out.

NOTES: The woman's faith was rewarded. Though Jesus did not answer positively at first, she persisted with her plea. She did not retaliate when Jesus said, "Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." She didn't go away depressed either hearing the Master's reply at the onset. She humbled herself and replied wisely, not caring about her status or position in the society. All she desired was a deliverance for her kid and she got it.

When Jesus came down from the mountainside, he was followed by large crowds. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." Jesus touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.

NOTES: The leper had faith but was unsure of God's will regarding healing of his sickness. The willingness of Jesus to honor faith is again clearly seen here. The healing was instantaneous as is seen in most of the healing miracles that we read of in the gospels. Jesus is willing to honor our faith too. We can approach him with confidence, because the Bible says,

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32)

Only the God we serve can perform such miracles.....all glory and praise belongs to Him.

Four people came, carrying a paralytic to Jesus. When they could not come near him because of the crowd, they removed part of the roof where he was and let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, "Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" Immediately Jesus, knowing in his spirit that they reasoned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?' But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" -- he said to the paralytic: "I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house." He arose, and immediately took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

NOTES: It's all about faith and authority here. Jesus gave no room for human reasoning to be an obstacle to the miracle working power of God, but honored the faith of the 4 who brought the paralytic to him. The 4 who brought the paralytic had only one aim in mind (to get a healing for the sick man) and they were willing to take risks. Perhaps they would have had to repair the roof later on or pay damage expenses to the owner of the house, but they must have taken all that joyfully seeing the deliverance of the friend they brought. As for the paralytic, it was a glorious day. Sins forgiven, malady healed, all in a few moments. Thanks to the Son of God.
