I live in a complex in a garden setting alongside an estuary. Most of the units are holiday rentals, and there are only three of us that are permanent residents (which is nice, very quiet most of the year!)

I am the chairman of the body corporate and responsible to ensure maintenance, finances, staff, security, caretaker, etc, are doing what they are supposed to be doing. This is a volunteer position to which I was elected by the owners of the units, and does not take up that much of my spare time.

Recently a single mother and her son moved into one of the units on a three month lease. He is twelve years old.

I have never, in my life, ever, come across a more out of control child. Since being here (one month), he has broken tables, signs, stolen keys, thrown a bicycle into the pool; hit a younger kid over the head with a plastic surf board etc. Speaking to his mother has not helped. She is fiercely protective and goes on the attack while he stands behind her with a look of defiance in his eyes that is almost that of a psychopath (seriously).

On Wednesday afternoon it was found that the unit next to mine had been broken into.

Short version is that I put two and two together and eventually he admitted to having done it with a friend of his (whose father works for me!). The owner of the unit drove six hours to come and see the damage (place had been turned upside down, a GPS unit and other stuff stolen)

Sounds to me like he's been accustomed to others "letting it slide" far too long. I think you've done the right thing for both of them. The harder road is the one that causes us to take the time to try to make a difference.

Bless you Brother. :emot-pray:

Bravo for having a spine, Fez. Someone has to hold him accountable after 12 years of who knows what. Unless halted now, it seems likely that he'd graduate to more and more serious crimes. (what you've mentioned so far is mind boggling for a pre-teen.) Mom's all teary now?? Just think what she'd be if he ended up in prison for life. You're doing them both a favor (they don't know this yet) by your actions.

I read a statistic about a year ago that said, 80% of people in jails in the United States come from a one parent home, single mothers, etc.. The reason being is because there is no father figure to control the child. He/She grows up to becoming a wild person with no self-control as you are describing here.

The Bible says that "the heart of a child is bound up in foolishness but the rod of correction with drive it far away" .. This child needs to know he can't hide behind his mother's back just because she doesn't have the heart (or wisdom) to correct him. I say. Do whatever is necessary to correct him. I would report that breaking in and thievery to the police. Why should this be a bad thing?

Just to add to what everone said..

Proverbs 22:15

A youngster's heart is filled with foolishness, but physical discipline will drive it far away.

Proverbs 13:24

Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.

Proverbs 3:12

For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.

you did the right thing...

By the way I am raising two children as a single mother.

They know their limits and they have set boundaries.

I don't cut them any slack. I know many single moms who are strict with their children and let them know their mothers won't tolerate any nonsense.

I don't take nonsense from any child living under my roof. Period. Father or no father.

Some single parents stop parenting and behave like children themselves and expect their children to parent THEM. The love and affection they should be getting from an adult mate and partner, they try to receive it from the child. Very wrong. I know a single mom whose son is always the "victim", "innocent." He got his girflfriend pregnant and the mother said the girlfriend trapped her poor son. He is now 27 years old and getting in touble with the law all the time, getitng into fights and getting arrested,. losing his jobs, not taking care of his child.... and sleeping in his mother's bed because his mom doesnt like sleeping alone.

:emot-pray:

Bottom line is. Do what is right.

Adding to this:

Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Romans 1:1

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
