NIV 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning

My guess would be, that God wants to make sure that we understand there are two sides to everything, and we can only follow one. Like:

Matthew 6:24 (New International Version)

24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

It appears that John 1 was modelled on Genesis 1, as there are many parallels between the two.

An overarching spiritual theme throughout the bible is the separation of His people from the world, light from darkness, good from bad.

We are to come out from the darkness (world) and into the light (literally, come to Christ). He is the light and we are to be in Him.

The principle part of light is to reveal all things in its presence, a presence that is in all places revealing all things. Christ came to bring

John 18:37

37 Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?"

Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

NKJV

John 8:12

12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

NKJV

ever notice how good it feels to be be fully yielded in the Spirit and to not have any portion of your being holding back from the light of God's Truth. To stand unhidden fully revealed and not be ashamed?

John 3:18-21

18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

NKJV

The ultimate truth of our daily lives is that all of eternity will be nothing hidden but that all is known

Mark 4:21-23

21 Also He said to them, "Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand? 22 For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

NKJV

Rev 22:3-5

3 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. 4 They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. 5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.

John 1 echoes Genesis 1 and in my opinion, expands on it. While Genesis is somewhat generic, John says: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and God was the Word. He later says that the Word was "in the bosom of the Father" and states emphatically that the Word is the Creative Agent of God when he says "all things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made." God said it, the Word carried it out.

Paul echoes this in Colossians 1 saying: (Col 1:16,17) For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him and He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Isn't it pleasant to know the truth and to have the freedom to know it will remain this way for all eternity. To know that every portion of creation is His creative genius and to realize that we cannot utilize any of it to get an idea of what heaven and reality then will be like! A sister stuck a rose in my nose and said smell as I obeyed the fragrance was layered with all different kinds of waves of delight, like a billion different sensory bulbs lit up in the brain to say wow that smells good! As I run here and there to search creation to get a clue of heaven and I witness beauty, smells, sounds, sensations, ... my Lord whispers this

1 Cor 2:7-12

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written:

"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,

Nor have entered into the heart of man

The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."

10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

NKJV

Freely given! We might ask why is it here where every thing has a price? Then I realized the sister did not charge me to smell Her rose! Love Steven

....What do these two passages mean to you?....

Jesus

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Really Is

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3

God Almighty

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Colossians 1:14-17

And The Reason For It All

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11

Wow, thanks!

It boils down to always staying in the Light of God, and all our lives seperating ourselves from darkness of any kind.

One day, soon after I had become Christian, I emailed my testimony to a friend of mine, whom I had always thought was Christian. We had been having our New Age discussions together for years and had become really close. She sounded happy when I first told her I had accepted Christ. Yet after she read my testimony, she became literally "enraged". She said to me: Why do you call yourself a sinner ? Why do you say that you weren't worthy before Christ?

She then went on to tell me that the problem with Christianity was this constant guilt-tripping etc... and that she was really disappointed that after all my own "spiritual enlightenment journey" I had regressed back to letting my life be ruled by guilt.

That day I was shaken. I started questioning my faith. I was on the highway driving to work, and then I couldn't take it anymore. I parked my car and I just cried out to God. He gave me that verse Romans 13: verse 9-12. (NIV)

"Love your neighbor as yourself." 10Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

11And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

I knew at that moment that God had answered me about clinging to Christ. Which meant clinging to love, with the faith of salvation through Christ.

So interesting.

Hi, I'm a new one....and thought I'd put in my thoughts.

I love Galatians...especially Gal. 5:16-23. This topic reminds me of how light extinguishes darkness....as in vs. 16 "So, I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit, then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves." Then when I read Romans 13:10 which says that "Love does no wrong to anyone..." it helps me see that when I love, for instance.....which is the 1st fruit of the Spirit.....then that loving will naturally begin extinguishing the flesh's sinning. Because I cannot agape-love someone and want to harm them at the same time....as goes the principle; light drowns out the dark.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
