Was just watching the National Geographic Channel. Apparently during the Northridge quake, all of Las Angeles lost its lights.

The sky was darker then it had been in decades. During this time the Griffith Observatory was flooded with calls about the strange lights in the sky. Eventually the astronomers figured out what the people were calling about, as their instruments did not find anything unusual.

Brace yourself....

The strange lights in the night sky?...

Stars.

The people of L.A. Had never seen them due to the light pollution!!!...

That is a bit scary, and I am glad I have lived outside of light pollution most my life!

It is funny but then again its not, its like one class of 4 years old I had none had ever seen real rain and it just wasn't the 4's but some of the older kids commented they had never seen it rain more than a 'spit' before either. I remember the first time my kids saw the milky way, it was amazing to hear the amazment in their voices!

I once saw a cartoon of a L.A. family on a trip outside in the country and the lady grabbing one of her fainted children and holding them down by the exhaust pipe of the car to revive him... :o

I think whoever said that on the show may have been stretching the truth a bit. I doubt very much that there are people (with IQs above single digits) who don't know what stars are.
