If any one can give me some help with this I would muchly appreciate it.

My question is this:  Do you know about the Vineyard Church such as the barking in the spirit, clucking like a chicken etc..

I was told that this is scriptural.  Does any one know the scripture in Ezekial about him lying in dung after he was slain in the spirit?  Or about Saul dancing around riping his clothes off being slain in the spirit?  Has any one heard of Jonthan Edwards and the Great Awakening.  I know lots of questions but I need to know..

Thanks

Oh, man!  The charasmatic cult has gotten worse since I left it!  That stuff is so anti-Biblical.  Stay away!

Ouch!  I'm starting to sound like an Independent Baptist.  Bob Landis, I'm holding you responsible. :P

And the Toronto Blessing. Howard Browne and Benny Hinn and the Gold dust phenomenom and the floating feathers and gold teeth and ... and ... and ...

My friend got real mixed up in this and still is. My former friend/pastor is one of the big boys involved. He now has a worldwide ministry but he started out truly on fire for God. I lost touch with him for many years and he's now up to his eyeballs in this stuff. The only things I have been able to really find out is from my friend. She is bewildered as to why I object. She claims to be closer to God now more than ever before.   :P

Why do you ask?

My friend says the same as what you posted: She claims to be closer to God now more than ever before.

She was telling me about this book on forgiveness and said that it was really good...just a small book what could it hurt to get it...she ordered 5 for me and when I received them via my son I looked at them and saw the author and I knew that name from somewhere (John Arnott) any way I found his website on the net and as soon as it came through I shook my head in unbelief.  Toronto Airport Christian Centre...What I was thinking when I saw this was Vineyard and all the stuff that they do.  so I gave the books back hoping she could get the money back (I hadn't at that point given her any money for the five I had ordered) I told her that I wasn't into that stuff and will not read his books..she was taking aback by what I had said.  I left it at that and I knew that we would be going for coffee today (this event happened a week ago) anyway at coffee she says that it is all scriptural.  she mentioned about Ezekial and Saul...she says that God did weird things with them when they were slain in the spirit and mentioned The Great Awakening and John Edwards....so that brings me to here looking for any help in correcting this error of deceit.   So I need help....

Shilo,

There is a thread started under Latest Newsworthy Articles called Signs and Wonders in the New Millenium. It has to do with this. I searched the net for weeks and came up with tons of stuff both for and against. There are bible scholars on this board that can help you out I'm sure. I'm interested myself. The whole Toronto thing gets weird. At least for my friend. I think it's dangerous.

Ezekial did do strange things.  But he was one man not a whole congregation. Does that mean that all of the members of the Toronto church are God's chosen prophets? I don't think so.

One thing that I will say here. I consider myself to be a normal, conservative, basically grounded person. I was in the Charismatic movement in the early 70's but left it. So I'm familiar with a lot of what goes on. However, despite my background and beliefs I had never been spiritually attacked until I starting questioning the Toronto revival. Now, that said, I went through a very tough time and the whole story is a little unbelievable and strange, but true.  I have not cut off my ties with my lifelong friend, but I will do so if she refuses to see the truth.

I'm interested in what the others have experienced from this.

Thanks Traveller:

I too, quite a few years ago was involved with the word faith movement and what a horrible, horrible, thing to be deceived by all of this stuff.  But I was in unawares and the Lord brought me out of it and has shown me to be aware by studying his word and all ways looking to Him.

This whole movement concerns me because it is so big and growing everyday. The people involved are totally unaware. They have no clue.

If you say things against this you are going to be attacked ladies both spiritually and emotionally by those involved in it. They are convinced its totally of God and that the rest of us are missing out on something. I personally believe this is of satan and has just enough truth in it to hook people. A little truth, and a lot of lie is still a lie.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
