Picked this up on FB. What do you think?

Do you think more people would read the New Testament if it were titled: "The Adventures of Jesus and friends."?

Sounds like a dumbing down of the Gospel.

Makes it sound like a fictional book.

No, I dont think so. In fact, I think it would be seen by at least some people as insult to their intelligence.

I don't think more people would read it. I also agree with OneLight that it makes the Bible appear to be a work of fiction. We call this portion of the Bible the New Testament to indicate that this is more than a work of literature. It is God's covenant with his people. I would look at such a change as another attack on the innerancy of scripture.

Maybe we should have a public movement to describe what we mean by "New Testament" cause I would bet that most people wouldn't know. Shed a little light on the darkness. My first reaction to Adventures of Jesus and Friends was a good lol, but that would def make a good kid's book...

Sorry, I didn't see it that way.

Of course - you guys don't know the person who posted this.

He's got the most warped sense of humor and reality and perspectives and . . . .

But he is very solid in the faith.

Sometimes, I think, we do need to read the Bible from the perspective of living an adventure rather than philosophying and theologizing.

It should be read as a whole book after all its the story of how God called a rag tag idol worshipping people out of all that to become His called out separated ones. Its one continuous story or at least I see it that way so I wouldn't want to change it to anything but His Word and well I guess we can keep the 'OT, NT' title since everyone knows it that way.

It would be a decent title for a children's version of the New Testament.
