Contraceptive pill linked to prostate cancer

14:45 17 November 2011

Widespread use of the contraceptive pill by women may increase the risk of prostate cancer in men. David Margel and Neil Fleshner at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, looked at levels of prostate cancer and contraceptive pill usage in 88 countries around the world. In every case, there was a significant correlation between the two.

<snip>

The pair favours a different hypothesis. They think that the oestrogen-like chemicals which are by-products of metabolism of the pill pass into the urine and ultimately make their way into the water supply.

That is the most bizarre attempt to force causation out of correlation that I've ever seen. blink.gif

:rolleyes: This is nothing new .. a few years ago someone came up with " proof " that there were more homosexual men round now due to the birth control pill since women " contaminated " the water after taking it :taped::taped::taped::taped:

All kinds of things flushed down our toilets end up in the water supplies down stream and ultimately in the ground water.... It actually is a bit more than just possible. Not sayin that it's true.... but it's possible...... no matter what it's bizarre

Since Asian men eat tofu on a regular basis, which is soy product, and since soy contains phytoestrogens, which could potentially cause the same thing, I would be curious to know what the rates of prostate cancer are in men who eat a lot of tofu. The same with western men who regularly drink soy milk even as a kid. The results should be the same if estrogen in birth control pills are to blame.
