Guest LadyC
i'm going to memorize psalms 101, and then i'm going to commit myself to reciting it every morning. it's only 8 verses... anyone else want to resolve to memorize it? 1 I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs. 2 I will be careful to live a blameless life— when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. 3 I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. 4 I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. 5 I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. 6 I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me. 7 I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence. 8 My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip. It helps us to focus on what we're memorizing. I did Philippians 4:19 few years ago- it just stuck into me. It came in "handy" (not sure if I like this phrase but can't think of anything better to describe it) when a situation occured and the Lord saw me though it. Its a really cool thing to be able to memorize scriptures, can you image having the entire bible memorized! did you ever watch the movie "the book of eli"? not exactly a christian movie, but denzel washington's character did exactly that. of course, it was just a movie. i've known of people who memorized books of the bible. we had a special guest at our church in vegas once, who came in and recited a long portion of scripture, and then talk about the importance of memorizing and keeping scripture 'written on your heart'. there may come a day when that's the only bible we can access... the one we've memorized. Guest LadyC
about 4 years ago, my resolution was to not lie to myself any longer....... in an attempt to keep that resolution I stopped making resolutions. i'm pretty good with resolving to do things, whether it's at new years or any other time. like, when i resolved to quit smoking after inhaling 2+ packs a day for 30+ years... i've been smoke free for two and a half years now. or like when i resolved to commemorate the anniversary of not smoking by reading thru the bible in 90 days... done that twice now, and now i'm taking my time going through it again until the third anniversary rolls around. so, memorizing 8 little verses and saying them every day? that SHOULD be a piece of cake. oh wait. not cake. LOL, i've also resolved to lose at least 20 lbs!
