There may have been multiple baptism in the church's infancy, but there is only one baptism that Jesus commissioned the the Apostles to carry out and that is baptism by water for the remission of sins. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38)

Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Acts 8:35-37 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Well, so much for your "one baptism" ... thanks anyway ...

Hebrews 6:1-2

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ,

let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of

repentance from dead works and

faith toward God,

the doctrine of baptisms (plural),

laying on of hands,

resurrection of the dead, and

eternal judgment.

And now you should read Post #10.

Then why does Ephesians state "one baptism"? There were at the time of the infancy of the church various baptisms. John the Baptist's baptism served its purpose to lead up to Christ, but when he arrived it was no longer needed. the baptism of the HS was for the Apostles on the day of Pentecost to serve a purpose of giving them the gifts of the HS and that is no longer being used (when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away). After the gospel was complete the gifts dies out with the Apostles and the remnant of who they gave it to.

The commission that Jesus gave to the Apostles in Mathew and Mark referred to water baptism. You see Peter carrying this out for the first time in Acts 2 where 3000 were baptized for the remission of their sins. You see Philip and the Eunuch using water baptism. Ephesians states there is ONE baptism and that is the water baptism for the remission of your sins. The other baptisms had their time and place but the latter has been meant

Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

The baptism for the remission of sins is the one that is promised to us. Not the others.

Hebrews 6:1-2

1 So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. 2 You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

There is one baptism, but there are two parts: one is the baptism by immersion in water which is what we do in obedience as pretty much (optimally) the first command of God we obey as believers. Then, there is the subsequent baptism of the Holy Spirit, where we receive power to live out our faith and exercise the giftings God has given us with greater ease and results.

Brother, you have been given some serious false teaching re: the above.

1 Cor. 13:10 means that when Jesus (who is perfect) returns, there will be no more need of these things,

but until that time the 9 spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12) are to be used.

These gifts are to be used in conjunction with the gospel as a testimony to the validity of the gospel.

These gifts have been used all over the world to reach the lost.

Who has been giving these powerful gifts, which help lead people to the Lord? Satan?

If you desire the truth, I invite you to search this out for yourself ... in the following 14 verses.

Please notice in the chart how the baptism with the Holy Spirit is connected with such things as:

the Spirit coming "upon" the person, speaking in tongues, miracles, etc.

(In the many Bible verses concerning salvation, the Holy Spirit comes "in" the person.

I especially point you to John 14:17, and Paul gives many as well.)

1 Luke 24:49 ------ 8 Acts 8:14-19

2 Acts 1:4-8 ------ 9 Acts 9:17-18

3 Acts 2:1-4 ----- 10 Romans 15:19

4 Acts 2:33-39 --- 11 Acts 10:44-48

5 Acts 4:8-16 ---- 12 Acts 11:15-17

6 Acts 4:31 ------ 13 Acts 14:3

7 Acts 5:12-16 ----14 Acts 19:5-6

Since water baptism is an outward expression of the reality of us being buried with Christ and being baptised in the Holy Spirit I would have to say that I would have to be immersed in water. When they bury people they don't thow a little soil on them they cover them completely (6 ft. under). Water baptism must be by complete immersion in water.

Reality: Buried with Christ.

Outward demonstration of the reality: Water baptism

Water baptism is an outward showing to the church and the world of what happened in the reality.

While this is true, it is my understanding that in the Early Church, when the water tables didn't permit total immersion, baptism was accomplished by pouring water over someone until they were completely soaked.

There were cleansing pools all over due to the practice of Judaism. The early church would have had easy access to water for immersion.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
