Jesus during His life, teachings, and ministry mentions in particular children. Especailly in reference to faith:

Matthew 18:1-6

1At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Those that were with Him, were even cautioned that to not be like a child...or more or less to offend these small blessings would be better off dead. What does it mean to have such faith? Are we encouraged to be eager to learn and try to be humbled, or at least accepting of fault and learn from such as we grow?

Thoughts? Please try to support answers with scripture, if possible....

Thanks....

May God Bless You

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

I see this as the base of what Jesus said. Too many today lean on their own understanding rather than take His words for what they say. A childlike faith believes God when God says something. This should be cherished when studying scripture. Education is a wonderful thing until the results lead you astray from the simplicity of scripture.

When Jesus was speaking against all the cities He had ministered in, and they did not repent, he said:

Matthew 11:25-26(NKJV)

At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

Like today, many back then thought they understood better then Christ and refused His simple testimony of the truth. They, through council, reasoned and stepped out on their own in understanding when it was plain to see the truth, believing they were right. Today, you will find those who claim that the simplicity of scripture does not mean what it says and will twist scripture to back their reasoning. Beware of those who refuse the word of God and lean on their own understanding.

Onelight,

You are bringing out some very interesting points...how does one know though? How do we know when the understanding of scripture is not our own?

There are a few ways. One is to learn to listen to His Spirit, which is usually a quiet voice in you directing you. We sometimes are so much into our own heads that we fail to hear His direction. We need to be quiet and seek His direction through prayer and meditation in His words.

Another way is to take what our new stance says and place it beside scripture in its fullness, not just the few verses we have taken to create this new understanding. Be a Berean!

Still another would be to seek counsel from elders. The more feedback you get, the more eyes see and critique.

Berean? I am not familiar with that term...can you...enlighten me please?

God's word is important just want to make sure that my own understanding is not the central core of what I believe...and that it is indeed God speaking to me. Been given a lot of labels lately because of my beliefs and just want to make sure that I am really on God's side. Also want to walk better in faith.

May God Bless You

The Berean are people from Berea. Here is were we read about them. Noticed the underlined ...

Acts 17:10-12(NKJV)

Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.

Onelight,

Thank you. I appreciate the explanation and the scriptural support. Know that I do not need to be too literal, just I do like referring to God's word. It is the only way I can think of to help me not to lean too much on my own understanding as that is something I do feel we all do at times... just want to know the truth and share only it. Now is the time it is needed most.

Thanks again

May God Bless You

I study scripture by topics. There are many sites that offer their idea of what scripture tells us on certain topics, but I find some very false. I like Bible.org. They offer many topics, some which are recorded from classes which you can follow along.

Hope this site helps.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
