Guest Xan
Dan, you mistranslated the Shema. Trust me on this one, I say it every sabbath. First I'll give it in Hebrew, then English, then we will talk about how one of the words cannot translate into English. "Shema Israel Adonai Eloheynu Adonai Echad." "Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our G-d, the L-rd is one." The last word of the shema is "echad" which translates poorly into English as "one". The word actually means "compound unity". Genesis 1:5 "And G-d called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." The word "first" in the Torah is actually "echad". The one day referred to consisted of both evening and morning. In Genesis 2:24, G-d instructed the husband and wife to be "echad"- indicating a compound unity. There is, however another Hebrew word which signifies an absolute oneness- "yachid". Genesis 22:2 "Take now thy son, thine only (yachid) son Isaac..." The term only is "yachid". Dan, I know where you are going with this. you are going to try to discredit Yeshua (Jesus) as being G-d. I accept the challenge, but first I need for you to make your argument against it. Also, I think that's how the spirit can leave the body when we die, if we were one entity, how would the body and spirit separate at death? ??? The mind/body/soul aspect is ok as long as a person does not give those aspects to God, for God has no body. What I've always thought "in God's image" referred to more was that God created us with free will and he created us good. I'm not sure what the Catholic Church teaches on this, but I think that God is not perfectly good because he HAS to be, but because he wills himself to be. We humans take that gift of free will and pervert it and use it in our weakness for worldly pleasure.

I think we can not understand the trinity, we have to accept that God is 3 but One. Jesus prayed to His Father a lot but He also said if you have seen Me, you have seen My Father who is in heaven. It's almost like three that come out of one and totally agree and think alike and are one, yeah that's confusing! Definately not explicable in our dimensions.
