It is hard to scroll allllllllll the way down multiple quoted posts. I try and edit them when I find it necessary to quote someone. For instance. Using an innocuous thread as an example: Pot Roast Fried Chicken Mashed Potato's Brown Gravy Green Beans Yams Cream of corn Corn bread Iced Tea Mmmmmm.....I want to come to YOUR grandma's house! That would be what mine would make if she was still with us, I'm sure. That post can be edited to just using the bottom part. (Im putting in spaces to show you the raw post you would see when typing out a reply.) Just highlight and delete the part I have in bold red below. [ quote name= 'MorningGlory' timestamp=1347070907' post='1855973] [ quote name= 'Monarchy' timestamp=1347064639' post='1855936] Pot Roast Fried Chicken Mashed Potato's Brown Gravy Green Beans Yams Cream of corn Corn bread Iced Tea [ /quote] Mmmmmm.....I want to come to YOUR grandma's house! That would be what mine would make if she was still with us, I'm sure. [ /quote] That gives you this: Mmmmmm.....I want to come to YOUR grandma's house! That would be what mine would make if she was still with us, I'm sure. Ok now, suppose you only want to quote a small part of someone's long post. Using another real example: Pot Roast Fried Chicken Mashed Potato's Brown Gravy Green Beans Yams Cream of corn Corn bread Iced Tea Again, adding spaces so you can see the raw post, just highlight and delete unwanted parts of it. For example, you can highlight and delete the following I am showing in red to give you a shortened post. [ quote name= 'Monarchy' timestamp=1347064639' post='1855936] Pot Roast Fried Chicken Mashed Potato's Brown Gravy Green Beans Yams Cream of corn Corn bread Iced Tea [ /quote] Iced Tea Hope that makes things clear. I know it would spare my wrist and those of many other folks if folks would stop quoting 5 posts just to add "I agree". I disagree.... Sorry could not resist..... FEZ! But I wouldn't call it a pet peeve. It would just make it so much easier to understand the discussion. I usually just copy and paste what I want to quote. Very often simple is better. Right; if the words aren't necessary....why post them? I'm all for simple.

Theres really no point to it, anyone in a debate, should read all the previous posts- and theres no point in repeating them all. If theres a few key points, I can see quoting one reply, and often when I do quote, its only one post, and I often edit out all non-important pieces of info in the post. It doesn't take that long to do really, and it doesn't hurt communication, while quoting 10 other people, does.

It is frustrating to see that people still quote whole reams of quoted posts just to make a small comment at the bottom. I think this bogs down the quality of posting and makes staying up with who saying what nearly impossible. I feel out of my place and an outsider to say this, but can i suggest that we strive to avoid this? Those with more skill and knowledge of this forum might like to give me and others tips on how to best do this?, but on other sties the post number is only quoted. Would that work here or can someone see good objection to this? Do you know that yr op title reads 'unnecessary coping of quoted posts?' Prob not, but it's pretty ironic and in some cases, quite true Lol Sevenseas, atleast someone is awake. I agree heartily, its unnecessary to have to cope with them.
