Slate: If You Like White Turkey Meat, You're Racist

Recommended Posts

This is unusual.

On Thanksgiving, a family member will carve up the turkey and ask us all, "White meat or dark?" Ron Rosenbaum scoffs at the preference for white meat over dark and discusses several possible reasons for the bias. Does the darker tone recall the soil we tread? Or are we betraying a more insidious prejudice? His original piece from 2010 is reprinted below.

Reading the article I found no direct claim that matches this thread title.

But it's definitely a controversial title. :D

The darker meat is a bit gamier and fattier to me. So I like white meat turkey lol.

Slate: If You Like White Turkey Meat, You're Racist

Well now, that is an interesting cover all statement, I perfer dark meat most of the time, only because most people that I live with over cook the turkey drying the white meat out, yet, I was taught that you eat what you are given and Thank the Lord for it.

Well I hope it has a couple of thick steaks

Yes. This kind..

LOL, I would have a go at that if I were hungry.

It has one saving grace in that it has no peas (shudder), in it.

Thinking that I should send Slate the recipe for my turkey and bacon chipolte/ranch sandwich.

Phooey on Slate....send it to ME! It sounds wonderful. :mgbowtie:

Soy meat is an abomination to God and man.

And yes, that IS satire! :happyhappy:

I don't eat the stuff, but our son and daughter-in-love are vegetarians, and they do. Me, I'd rather eat the box it came in; probably tastes better. :biggrin2:

I've tried the fake soy meat -- and you're right. The box probably would taste better, though I can't say I've tried eating the box! I had a girlfriend whose family was mostly vegan . . .

Apparantly, this person and his family are terrible cooks. White meat on a turkey comes out tasting very good as long as you inject it. The reason why dark meat turns out juicier is due to the turkey being cooked breast side up and the juices going down.

But I fry my turkeys and don't have this problem. As I said all one needs to do is inject the white meat, I also inject the dark meat. It is so much better. :emot-drool:

Have not tried it fried, but injected is much more juicy.
