My mom was Seventh day adventist and my dad Catholic. Mom got her way. So we went to church on saturday and followed Old test laws (except the sacrifice laws, Jesus was our sacrifice as well).  Then my folks had a problem with some of the beliefs of the SDA and so we tried my dad's religion. LOL  We went to a private catholic school and were taught totally different views.  Well, when I got old enough to choose for myself, I started reading the bible and learning for myself.  Now, as an adult (40 shhhh LOL)  I attend a baptist church but am not a member.  I am a member of the body of Christ.  God's church.  Not a SDA, not a Catholic, not a baptist but a Christian!  And an always seeking knowledge one at that.  Okay, life story out there.  See why I was so messed up? LOL

I am saved though, I know that Jesus died for me.  I know that I am nothing and there is nothing without Him.  But still learning how to follow.

All that matters is that you're saved. I'm against the whole idea of church membership as we know it (shhhh, that's controversial in these parts) so I know where you're comming from. I think your background can help you out in that both do teach a lot of truth and at the very least different perspectives. Keep searching though, one is never too young or too old to discover the mysteries of God.

Seems like the more I learn, the more questions I get LOL. Is church membership a verbotten subject here?

I can quote scriptures all day but figuring them out is another story. In school we had to memorize a ton of them.

I have also read the Torah and the koran as research.

Thanks for caring enough to talk to me. You're very kind.

Thank you very much for the compliment. I really needed that :o

It's not really forbidden, just most people hold to the traditional view. For me it's been really hard to seperate from it. I've grown up Southern Baptist so it's hard for me to admit that church membership (as we know it) has no place in the church today. Yet...the more I explore other churches who have done away with it, the more I realize they're getting more things done.

Don't worry about figuring out scriptures. That will come with prayer and time. I mean, if you think about it, it's fallible humans trying to understand the infallible Word of God.

You might find the Talmud helpful (if you haven't already read it). It explains a lot of the Jewish customs and beliefs and really helps in trying to understand where we get some of our beliefs. Plus, it explains a lot of the Torah (understatement of the year).

Great suggestion, I will read the talmud as well. With all of the members here and all of the topics and posts, I was feeling a tad lost. Thanks for making me feel welcome here. I have a ton of questions but I don't want to wear out my welcome. LOL

I also do not give in the collection plate. I donate privately out of the eyes of man. I also do not fill out attendance cards at church. I don't think the church should be counting God's people. He knows the number who are his. King David was punished for counting his people. I know, I have issues. :o

As to church membership, I encourage it if you can find one that teaches the Truth.

One way it can help is by having a good Pastor that helps in your learning of the difficult areas of the Bible.

Another way it helps is that it brings you in contact with others of like faith in God. We can help each other in times of distress, just like what is happening here today!

A church can be a wonderful refuge in this world. It can stand as a pillar in a down trodden society and be a beacon for those searching for the truth in Christ. It can help missionaries fill their needs. It can send saints to prisons, hospitals, orphanages, seedy areas of town and a host of other places in need of the Gospel.

Being a member of a bad church can cause a lot of problems, also. The way you were brought up is one example of what I mean. ( I mean in the terms of religious upbringing in which you described :o )

Some people live in areas where there is no church worthy of Christ's Name. I would not attend one just for the sake of being there.

Some people feel called from church. It's something I guess I can understand, if there is not a good one around you. Much of this may be attributed to members of churches that use that status as a means to feel superior to others.

Regardless of those types of people, the church will survive, if it is in line with the teachings of the Bible. :P

Thanks and I pray you will continue to be Blessed here as well!

t.

Oh wow, if I ever start a church I want you to attend it! Churches could use more "members" like you (like the irony in the sentence?). You'd be suprised though. What you're teaching has actually starting to catch on. What's more amazing is that it's bible students who are catching onto it...

I'm not trying to "teach" anything. I am only sharing what I believe. I couldn't handle the pressure and scrutiny that teachers are held by. LOL These are all things that I have discovered on my own by reading His Word. I know I tons more to learn. (you didnt warn me fast enough about membership lol)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
