First you have to figure out what day of the week Sabbath is.

Jews and some Christians claim Saturday as the Sabbath.

For most Christians it is Sunday, which commenerates the resurrection of Jesus.

It's Friday for Muslims.

Genesis 2:2-3

"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."

Since we don't have a calender from that time, we have no way of knowing if the 7th day was what we now call Saturday, Sunday, or even Thursday.

Days of the week came later, a man-made concept. There have been different calenders throughout time.

Sunday is the first day of the week according to Christian and traditional Hebrew calenders. Day 7 on these calenders is Saturday. If you go strictly by this calender and believe the day God rested to be Sunday you would be wrong.

Going back to Sunday as the day to commemerate the day of the resurrection we really don't know what day of the week it would be on the modern calender.

There are some calenders which have Monday as the first day and Sunday as the 7th day.

My opinion: it does not matter which day it is as long it's the day your faith/affiliation designates as the day to worship with others.

Why did God command a day of rest in the first place?

Was it not to be a reminder that God is our creator.

God made the Sabbath day holy-something only God can do. Man cannot make a day holy.

In the beginning God created days from sunset to sunset.

Man started a new day at midnight.

In the New Testament days were counted when the sun set.

Most authorities recognize Saturday as the seventh day of the week and Sunday as the 1st day of the week.

The change to Sunday observance was made by man after the NT was written.

What biblical authority do we have for changing the day of rest since only God can sanctify a day not man?

Although man has modified calendars throughout history the seven-day weekly cycle has remained intact

The days of the week have always remained in their proper order.

God entrusted His oracles to be preserved by His divine power to certain people and the Jewish community has maintained that as of today.

Today's mainstream churches, though they reject the 7th day Sabbath confirm when it is by acknowledging the Sunday worship to be the 1st day of the week, which would make the previous day the seventh day Biblical Sabbath

Remind me again, are you a follower of the 7th Day Aventist group?

The issue I have is there's no temple to celebrate the Sabbath. Are you saying that every Believer should celebrate the Sabbath?

God bless,

GE

This was split from this thread to discuss the Law and the Sabbath:

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Ten Commandments-The Law- is generally considered to be the standard for defining sin.

We have no problem with adhering to 9 of them.. Like Thou shalt not murder, thou shalt not  take the name of the Lord in vain, thou shalt not commit adultery, etc.

But so many question God's fourth Commandment and insist that it has been changed.

Yes it was changed by Constatine I believe during the 300s.

From what I see on this thread, the only law in the 10 commandments that there is a problem with is the 4th one.

Qnts2

So, the question becomes, are the Mosaic covenant and the New Covenant different covenants? Which one are we under? And what laws are given to us based on the covenant we are under?

are the Mosaic covenant and the New Covenant different covenants?

The answer is yes.

Which one are we under?

We are under the New Covenant

what laws are given to us based on the covenant we are under?

The old Covenant is over, the rewards are over. If you keep them all, it is not enough to get you into God’s Kingdom, but, Christ said to enter into life “you must keep the commandments.” (Matt 19:17)

Jer 31:31 - 34 and Hebrews 8: 8 - 11

Heb 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah-

9 "not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.

10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

11 "None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.

The covenant is over, -- The laws were transferred over and put the laws in our mind and write them on their heart.

The problem commandment is the Sabbath, the sign you are God’s people. Who would want you not to have the sigh that you belong to God?

Ezek 20:12 "Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.

Another sign of being God's people in the OT, is the physical circumcision.  The sign in the NT, and the New Covenant is circumcision of the heart/indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

The Sabbath was a unique day given to the children of Israel under the Mosaic covenant.

Exodus 31:13

“Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
