Several accounts, is what you said.

The one you told about is more than likely, not true.........

There were no flames, in the scriptures.

Man, and his imagination, says there were 'flames'.

I would be interested in the other accounts, "YOU", have heard about.

Hi ....I told you what I heard from a pretty reliable source...I was a young man at the time and just took the account on board...I did not go into detail with the Pastor who told me about what these people had experienced...or question him if it was actual fire or just looked like fire.

A commentary describes the so-called flames thus...

Acts 2:3 - cloven tongues, like as of fire, &c.--"disparted tongues," that is, tongue-shaped, flame-like appearances, rising from a common center or root, and resting upon each of that large company:--beautiful visible symbol of the burning energy of the Spirit now descending in all His plenitude upon the Church, and about to pour itself through every tongue, and over every tribe of men under heaven!

I have heard many things over the years from Christians...some greatly exaggerated,some embellished,some complete lies...and others remarkable true accounts...hey I've even had some myself.

I only told this account because it was the one that stuck with me most and came from a person directly involved with the related events...the other accounts are just vague memories of people claiming to have heard from a friend of a friend etc...and so they just go on the back-burner of interesting events that I can in no way confirm and would not be prepared to elaborate on.

What you make of what I told you is entirely up to you...I certainly don't blame you for having a healthy degree of scepticism but you must be careful you do not overplay your grasp of what YOU claim the Scriptures are talking about.

If we lift the lid on the bible words... we see.... this mighty evidence was NOT for saint as in personal, but for many in ONE accord who became as ONE from this divine event

It was for a Holy purpose, not for an 'experience' to boast to others.

ONE ACCORD people IN ONE PLACE unity = [ clue.]

acts 2 .

the sound of this mighty rushing wind... it was NOT the wind, only the SOUND from heaven, [word used here is 'echos']

filled the house = to gush out.

= to spill out freely.

verse 3

cloven togues that were NOT fire, only looked like fire.

so

we have

one accord in one place in unity brethren.

a mighty echo

and cloven tongues, that only looked as fire. [this must have been a flickering light perhaps that was the same colour as fire and moved in the same manner as fire]

this holy Equipment was = to turn this world upside down.

These people [120 of them,] BURST FORTH with DIVINE EQUIPMENT for a HOLY PURPOSE, that EXPLODED into that city changing 120 saint first then outflowing to others.

that is the bible explanation...

My Mums best friend whose brother was a heroin addict. One day, he was involved in a car crash in which a pole went through his head and he nearly died.

When he was in hospital, his family were praying for him, and he got saved.

When he came home, he was in his bedroom one night, and he suddenly felt the need to kneel by the side of his bed.

Because he had been a heroin addict, he had had lots of hallucinations and strange experinces. He asked God to baptise him in the Holy Spirit, and to let him know Him, in a way that destroyed all the bad experiences he had had.

As he knelt praying, he opened his eyes, and the room was filled with flickering flames. As he watched, the flames came together into a ball of what looked like fire, and burst over his head. It was so intense, that he thought the hole that had been left in his head, was healed. When he put his hand to his head, the hole was still there, but he was baptised into the Holy Spirit.

He saw the fire, he felt the fire, but it didn't burn him because the flames were not hot.

That is a remarkable account and just demonstrates that we serve an awesome G-d who cannot be confined to the limitations of an individuals interpretation of the word of G-d...he is our Sovereign L-rd and He is Mighty....able to do far more than we can possibly imagine or give Him credit for.

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the LORD.
