Israel in no way lives in peace in "unwalled cities."

Unwalled cities.... you disputing the green line? Since when does Israel have borders with Syria and the Palestinian territories? That condition is already met.

Your position is all wrong and unrealistic....these Arabs have never in the human history lived in peace with Israel, now satan himself will create peace? Just think about that for a bit.....its actually laughable.

Your understanding of Ezekiel 38 might need to be reviewed, please review what I said in my post you copied. Since the formation of Israel in our modern times, no Arab country has EVER successfully invaded Israel...Infact Israels security is one of the worlds most sophisticated defenses...How many Jews are killed by rocket launches each time? Its a bit of a Joke isnt it? So yes Israel is rather um secure wouldnt you agree?

And compared to the past 2000 years of persecution, attempted genocides and worldwide displacement, one would agree Israel is finally at rest in their own land, settled not so?

Then whats the problem?

No border with Syria? Have you looked at a map lately? The Golan Heights? The West Bank? They are under constant threat. The Muslim nations are calling for the destruction of the Jewish state. They live in shelters to avoid missles. How is that being at rest?

No nation has successfully invaded Israel? How did Israel loose East Jerusalem to Jordan before they regained it back in the 6 day war? Just because Israel has the best military in the region, they are under constant terrorist threat. How is that peace? How is that safety? The scriptures indicate that they will have a false sense of security because they will have wiped their neighbors off the map. No more Hamas, nor more Hezbollah, no more PA, no more INGC. They are taken care of before Ezekiel 38-39 in the wars previously mentioned. And sin GOD will be dealing with Israel, the Church cannot be present, hence the Rapture must occur prior to Ezekiel 38-39. There will be a peace treaty in place prior to Ezekiel 38-39, guarenteed by the Anti-Christ, which will cause the Jews to think that they are safe - hence the term peace and safety, living in unwalled cities. You talk about laughable? It seems that you have no understanding of the end times event and how they unfold. I hope that the readers of your comments know better and have actually studied and understand Daniel and Revelation.

Time out....

Now now, let's not get personal or condescending in tone. Don't forget, we are all fallible humans attempting to seek more knowledge and wisdom. On top of that, we are to put on humility in conversation in everything we say and do.

Please refrain from adding insults or digs. Not edifying.

Ok, resume....

Is it Shrine or is it Temple?

2 Thessalonians 2:4

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Revelation 11:1,2

I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers

If you notice the words Temple in the above scriptures, the original Greek text of 2 Thessalonians 2:4 and Revelation 11:1 there is a completely different word. The Greek word is "ναὸν” In both the NIV and the KJV, this word is mistranslated as "temple." A more accurate translation of that word is "shrine."

2 Thessalonians 2:4

2Ths.2.4(Greek).jpg

Revelation 11:1,2

Rev.11.1,2(Greek).jpg

The question is, could "shrine" indicate something other than the Third Temple?

A shrine usually is an indication of worshiping false deities.  I find the following for the word naon or naos from The Complete Word Study Dictionary - New Testament:

A dwelling, temple.  In Class. Gr., mostly equivalent to the syn. word hieron (2411), the entire area of a temple which included the inner temple (though sometimes naos referred only to the interior and most sacred past of the temple where the image of a god was set up).

(I) Generally, of any temple (Acts 7:48; 17:24; 19:24 referring to the miniature copies of the temple of Diana at Ephesus containing a small image of the goddess.  Such shrines of other gods were also common, made of gold, silver or wood, and were purchased by pilgrims and travelers, probably as souvenirs or to be used in their devotions).

(II) Of the temple in Jerusalem or in allusion to it, but in distinction from hieron, the entire area (Matt. 23:16, 17, 35).

(A) The building itself (John 2:19, 20).

(B) The inner sanctuary.  This is to be distinguished from thusiasterion (2379), alter, referring to the alter of burnt offerings.  This stood in the court of the priests before the entrance of the naos (Matt. 27:5) where Judas threw the silver coins since he could not enter (Matt. 26:61; 27:40; Mark 14:58; 15:29; Luke 1:9, 21, 22; 2 Thess. 2:4).  In the expression "the vail of the temple" (a.t. [Matt. 27:51; Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45; Sept.: 1 Kings 6:5, 17; Ps. 5:7; 11:5]).

(III) Symbolically, of the temple of God in heaven to which that of Jerusalem was to correspond (cf. Rev. 3:12; 7:115; 11:1, 2, 19; 15:5, 6, 8; 16:1, 17; 21:22).

(IV) Metaphorically, of persons in whom God or His Spirit is said to dwell or act, e.g., the body of Jesus (John 2:19, 21); of Christians (1 Cor. 3:16, 17; 6:19; 2 Cor. 6:16; Eph. 2:21).

I am not sure what you are using as a Interlinear, but try looking into scripture4all.  They do not use the word shrine, but temple.

Thanks inchrist,

I like your style and pace.

Questions:

1. if this invasion occurs at mid point of Daniel week 70, is it before or after the abomination?

2. If this invasion is at midpoint and God wipes them out pretty quickly, how could this be Armageddon assuming Armageddon occurs just before the Second coming? (Over 3 years separating the two)

3. Does this invasion take place in the valley of Meggido?

That's it for now. Thanks.

Spock

Per Rev.16, the battle of Armageddon happens on the 7th vial which is poured out into the "air". That is the day of Christ's return, and it is the "day of the Lord", ending the great tribulation. It parallels the events of the ending of the 6th trumpet - 2nd woe and is the 7th trumpet - 3rd woe. It is the events of the 6th seal. It is the events of Rev.19 with Christ's army coming to defeat that Antichrist and his.

The day of the Lord is when the great shaking, great earthquake the likes of none in the past, the fire and brimstone, great hail weighing a talent, and destruction of the Gog/Magog armies of Ezekiel 38 - 39. It is the time of the gathering of lost Israel per Ezek.39. It is the time of the battle of the "valley of decision" per Isaiah.

The "great tribulation" timing is PRIOR to the Armageddon - day of the Lord events.

The end of Armageddon ends the Great Tribulation

I concede that point, if you understand that Armageddon will start and end in probably no more than "one hour". The day of the Lord events happen very quickly, ending this present world and ushering us into Christ's thousand years reign.

Hi Salty,

Just a small point here. You said -

`...Armageddon will start & end in probably no more than `one hour.`

Actually it is a campaign over quite a long time.  The Greek word for `battle,` `Polemos,` indicates a campaign that will extend over a large area & a great period of time. The gathering of the world`s armies starts at the great plain of Armageddon near the Mount of Megiddo & would stretch from the Mediterranean Sea across to the Jordan valley. From there the armies will travel through Israel as the Lord brings them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat (Joel 3: 2) till they encompass Jerusalem which will eventually be overwhelmed, conquered & looted. Two-thirds of the whole nation of Israel will be slain. (Zech. 13: 8 - 14: 2  & Luke 21: 20)

Marilyn,

Interesting take on this. Obviously when our Lord comes on the scene, game, set, match. But what you are saying is there will be a lot of pre game festivities going on before he arrives on the scene.

Just curious, do you see great battles going on besides against Israel or are all the nations just maneuvering for position?

Revelation 16:12-16

Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.

One light,

I remember Hal Lindsey interpreting this as china coming across to fight the antichrist, but I do not believe the passage you cited says that. Do you?

It sounds more like friends coming to the "party."
