For the forty years I lived in Missouri, my spouse, children and siblings with their families would get together for holidays.  It was wonderful.  Mom and Dad were the hub of this wheel.  There were many of us when we got together because there were five children, spouses and many children.  Did we particularly like everything about each member?  No, but we still had a common love for each other and would put our differences aside to fellowship with one another in Christ.  It was wonderful!  Now, my five children have grown and they have their own spouses and children.  We have 23 all together when we have a gathering.  Nearly 8 months ago a situation occurred that caused my daughter-in-law (Kelly)  to separate herself from my daughter (Sarah) and her family.  Now when we have a family gathering, Kelly and her family will not come if Sarah is there.  Sarah has reached out to her numerous times to try and talk and remedy the situation, even apologizing and asking for forgiveness if she did anything wrong in handling this situation.  We still do not know exactly why Kelly is mad at her.   Kelly will not speak to her.   Kelly is extremely sensitive and if I would speak to her, I may loose my son and grandchildren forever.  I have never experienced anything like this and am hurting to see this split in our family.  I have spent much time in prayer but do not know if there is something else I should be doing.  If anyone has helpful suggestions I am open.  My mom's advise is to keep out of it and keep praying.  In the mean time I am seeing my whole family in sorrow over this split.

I think your mom is correct.

Only prayer and letting each member of the family know that you care for and are available for them is the best way to settle a dispute.

Many of us have experienced the same difficulties when dealing with others.

Blessings to you!

Prayerfully yours,

Ron

Thank-you Ron for your response.  I will stay silent and keep praying unless God opens a door to communicate. The thing I do wonder is the thought that Kelly might not even know the Lord.  We are to forgive each other over and over again as the Lord does for us.  I personally feel terrible when I hold on to a grudge in my heart.  I see her bitterness growing and growing the longer she holds on to this.  I also know in the long run she is just hurting herself. Ron, would you please pray for our family?  I would appreciate it.

Perhaps someone with a more objective perspective might be able to help. Perhaps an experienced church leader or family therapist could work out with you some of the options that could help this situation.

your mother is very wise.....   take her advice.    If they won't open up to you about what the real problem is, they certainly are not going to take any requests about it...

So tough when a rift happens in a family.  God is the healing power for your family.  He knows what is going on.  He knows when this rift will be mended.  Keep looking to God for your strength through this and it is good to have so many people praying.  I hope you are encouraged by so many praying and it gives you hope and strength.  take good care of your relationship with both families and keep your mom's advice.  I have prayed tonight for healing and strength.

Thank you all for your prayers concerning this matter.  I know in the scope of problems in the world, this one is minor.  However, my heart does hurt at times and I just turn to the Lord and ask him to bear yet another burden.  I am so grateful to all of my brothers and sisters in Christ and grateful to the one whose yoke is easy and burden is light.
