If you are right about Adam and Eve living forever if they did not eat from the tree God commanded not to, then what would be the purpose of the "tree of life" if all Adam and Eve had to do is not eat from the forbidden tree to live forever? Guest Butero
I would imagine they would have lived a lifespan approximately 10 times greater than we live today. Adam lived to be 930 years of age. God shortened man's days to approximately threescore and ten years to fourscore years, which is 70 to 80 years. Had God not shortened man's days, being denied access to the tree of life would likely mean a lifespan of 700 to 800 years on average. Since they were all sinless yet their physical bodies aged, even Jesus grew from a baby to a full grown man on earth. If Jesus never went to the cross how long would his physical body last? So I think they would have lived forever, eating of the tree of life. Then they sinned and were kicked out of the garden so they would not eat of the tree of life and live forever. Because the Lord told them if they ate of the fruit they would die.  Gen 2 9 And out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food. The tree of life also was in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  (snip)  16 ¶ And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden, 17 but you shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.  Gen 3 22 ¶ And the LORD God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever,
