The weathermen have decided that a huge dust storm in northern Nevada was the source of eastern Washington State's giant mud storm. An area of 200 miles by 70 miles was hit with a mud storm on Saturday. Since WA, OR and CA have been deluged with rain, it has been a puzzle as to where the dust in the upper atmosphere came from. But it was finally traced to Nevada. Car washes had lines blocks long in Spokane, Pendleton OR. and west.

I live in northern Nevada. We did have these severe winds for a whole day. The sky was gray, totally grey Wore sunglasses from building to car to keep dust out of eyes. Things were fling everywhere. First I have heard of Eastern Washington mudbath. The next day it rained all day here.

From Komo News, a site I am not familiar with:

Update: Further investigation by a Washington State University meteorologist shows the origin of the light-colored dust wasn't from a dust storm northern Nevada, but a dust storm from Oregon's Summer Lake -- also home to very light-colored sands.
