So that word stuck out when I read Oswald chambers. Today we have substituted doctrinal belief for personal belief, and that is why so many people are devoted to causes and so few are devoted to Jesus Christ. People do not really want to be devoted to Jesus, but only to the cause He started. Jesus Christ is deeply offensive to the educated minds of today, to those who only want Him to be their Friend, and who are unwilling to accept Him in any other way. Our Lord’s primary obedience was to the will of His Father, not to the needs of people— the saving of people was the natural outcome of His obedience to the Father. If I am devoted solely to the cause of humanity, I will soon be exhausted and come to the point where my love will waver and stumble. But if I love Jesus Christ personally and passionately, I can serve humanity, even though people may treat me like a “doormat.” The secret of a disciple’s life is devotion to Jesus Christ, and the characteristic of that life is its seeming insignificance and its meekness. Yet it is like a grain of wheat that “falls into the ground and dies”— it will spring up and change the entire landscape (John 12:24). Just thinking. Comments? There is a Holy Spirit boldness that comes upon us when we need to make a strong stand for not only the word of God but for ourselves. It blesses God when we defend to the uttermost His word. No we are not a doormat if we do not allow them to treat us like a doormat but many in our world will try.Especially when they find out that you are a believer in Jesus Christ. Many Christians will treat us like a doormat when we express our Biblical views. And I think that is very sad but then again look who is the prince of our world....Satan.Satan does not like it when we pick up our Bibles. Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. This is certainly not a command to be a doormat (who submits meekly to domination or mistreatment by others).

Not only did he instruct His disciples this way, but Jesus Himself continued on when He was not received. All powerful yet does not force anyone. Free will. Boggles my mind how he loves people yet let's us have free will to walk away. Incredibly heartbreaking also.

In the scriptural examples, Jesus was telling His disciples that they were to preach the gospel to everyone. Where they were received with joy, they should stay and teach. But where their message was rejected, they had no further responsibility. They were free to walk away with a clear conscience, knowing they had done all they could do. Shaking the dust off their feet was, in effect, saying that those who rejected God’s truth would not be allowed to hinder the furtherance of the gospel. Even the dust of those cities that rejected the Lord was an abomination and would not be allowed to cling to the feet of God’s messengers. There are situations in our lives where God calls us to stand firm, proclaim truth, and give patient testimony. Sometimes we need to continue until we see the results of that testimony. Other times God gives us the freedom to move on. We figuratively “shake the dust off our feet” when, under the Holy Spirit’s direction, we surrender those people to the Lord and emotionally let go. We have the freedom then to move into the next phase of ministry. Jesus’ instruction to “shake the dust off our feet” reminds us that we are only responsible for our obedience to God, not for the results of that obedience.Read more:http://www.gotquestions.org/shake-dust-off-feet.html#ixzz3ddu1pSJE

Turn the other cheek, do not repay evil with evil etc.... If you follow God's Word, the world is going to reject you anyways. They will call you a "doormat."
