Hi Montana Marv,

As I`ve said before `eye has not seen...`  But what we do know is that -

`When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.` (Col. 3: 4)

And Christ`s life is one of fruitfulness, servant hood, stewardship, heirship, teacher, brother, friend, holy one, priest, king, judge, priest, citizen, son,.....& we shall share in His life with Him.

Marilyn.

Why did you not clarify this before.  I see you left out the "creating" and making of things.  Sounded like making quilts and knitting, wood carving and such things.

In Christ

Hi Montana Marv,

I`m glad that it has been clarified for you.

It has often been portrayed that we will sit on clouds playing harps. However we know that God, the Creator, will make all things new. He will unfold to us His wonderful creative ability in the ages to come. Age upon age upon age. Truly mind boggling.

What God has planned & prepared no eye has seen or ear heard nor even entered our thoughts or hearts. If this world, even `groaning` as it is, is so awesome, then we can expect wonders & glories beyond our wildest dreams.

`eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit` (1 Cor. 2: 9 & 10)

There is much that God has revealed through His word of Christ & His riches – eternal salvation, being filled with His Holy Spirit, having the divine character of Christ being formed in us, our wonderful inheritance in glory, …..all this revealed by His Holy Spirit.

And as God made Adam to care & tend the garden of Eden, with the abilities to do this job, we know that God is preparing our characters & God given abilities to care & tend to His `new` things that He will create. We will `create`  - make, design, plan, build, shape, mould etc etc out of the wonderful things that God will create, make.

Marilyn.

Question: "What is the New Jerusalem?"

Answer:
The New Jerusalem, which is also called the Tabernacle of God, the Holy City, the City of God, the Celestial City, the City Foursquare, and Heavenly Jerusalem, is literally heaven on earth. It is referred to in the Bible in several places (Galatians 4:26Hebrews 11:1012:22–24; and 13:14), but it is most fully described in Revelation 21.

In Revelation 21, the recorded history of man is at its end. All of the ages have come and gone. Christ has gathered His church in the Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:15–17). The Tribulation has passed (Revelation 6—18). The battle of Armageddon has been fought and won by our Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:17–21). Satan has been chained for the 1,000-year reign of Christ on earth (Revelation 20:1–3). A new, glorious temple has been established in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40—48). The final rebellion against God has been quashed, and Satan has received his just punishment, an eternity in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:7–10.) The Great White Throne Judgment has taken place, and mankind has been judged (Revelation 20:11–15).

In Revelation 21:1 God does a complete make-over of heaven and earth (Isaiah 65:172 Peter 3:12–13). The new heaven and new earth are what some call the “eternal state” and will be “where righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13). After the re-creation, God reveals the New Jerusalem. John sees a glimpse of it in his vision: “The Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (Revelation 21:2). This is the city that Abraham looked for in faith (Hebrews 11:10). It is the place where God will dwell with His people forever (Revelation 21:3). Inhabitants of this celestial city will have all tears wiped away (Revelation 21:4).

The New Jerusalem will be fantastically huge. John records that the city is nearly 1,400 miles long, and it is as wide and as high as it is long—a perfect cube (Revelation 21:15–17). The city will also be dazzling in every way. It is lighted by the glory of God (verse 23). Its twelve foundations, bearing the names of the twelve apostles, are “decorated with every kind of precious stone” (verse 19). It has twelve gates, each a single pearl, bearing the names of the twelve tribes of Israel (verses 12 and 21). The street will be made of pure gold (verse 21).

The New Jerusalem will be a place of unimagined blessing. The curse of the old earth will be gone (Revelation 22:3). In the city are the tree of life “for the healing of the nations” and the river of life (verses 1–2). It is the place that Paul spoke of: “In the coming ages [God] might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). The New Jerusalem is the ultimate fulfillment of all God’s promises. The New Jerusalem is God’s goodness made fully manifest.

Who are the residents of the New Jerusalem? The Father and the Lamb are there (Revelation 21:22). Angels are at the gates (verse 12). But the city will be filled with God’s redeemed children. The New Jerusalem is the righteous counter to the evil Babylon (Revelation 17), destroyed by God’s judgment (Revelation 18). The wicked had their city, and God has His. To which city do you belong? Babylon the Great or the New Jerusalem? If you believe that Jesus, the Son of God, died and rose again and have asked God to save you by His grace, then you are a citizen of the New Jerusalem. “God raised [you] up with Christ and seated [you] with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). You have “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade” (1 Peter 1:4). If you have not yet trusted Christ as your Savior, then we urge you to receive Him. The invitation is extended: “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life” (Revelation 22:17).

The major point I’d like you to consider is this: It is NOT the “City Foursquare!” It is the “City that LIETH foursquare!”

Revelation 21:16

16 And the city lieth foursquare (Greek: hee polis tetragoonas keitai = "the city four-cornered lies-outstretched”), and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs (Greek: stadioon, accusative plural of stadion). The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
KJV

Thus, it is NOT a “perfect cube.” Please understand that I appreciate that you acknowledge it “is literally heaven on earth,” and that you acknowledge “The New Jerusalem will be fantastically huge. John records that the city is nearly 1,400 miles long, and it is as wide and as high as it is long.” That’s all good! However, as a mathematician, I must tell you that it is an inconsistent impossibility for it to be a “perfect cube.”

Let’s use your measurements of 1,400 miles long by 1,400 miles wide, by 1,400 miles high:

Let’s look at a cross-section of the earth, cutting the northern half from the southern half at the equator. It has a circumference at the equator of 24,902 miles. Now, let’s consider the length of this city lying on that circumference. This gives us the simple equation, 1,400 miles / 24,902 miles = x degrees / 360 degrees, of the earth’s circumference. By simply multiplying by 360 and following through on the division by 24,902, we arrive at x = 20.239 DEGREES of the earth’s circumference! That means that the direction for “down” on one side of the city will be 20.239 degrees different than “down” on the opposite side of the city, and BOTH sides will be 10.1195 degrees different than the direction for down in the center of the city! That means that a “perfect cube” would NOT look like so “perfect" a cube from right next to the city! The walls would have to be at 79.8805 degrees to the surface of the earth instead of being orthogonal!

OR, if the walls were kept orthogonal, that is, at 90 degrees to the surface of the earth, the TOP of the “perfect cube” would be a LOT longer than the bottom of the cube’s 1,400 miles! The earth’s radius is 3,963.3 miles. Since the distance (s) is the angle expressed in radians times the radius of the circle (s = theta x r), dividing by the radius of the circle will provide the angle in radians: s / r = theta. Thus, 1,400 miles / 3963.3 miles = 0.35324 rads. Extending the radius by the 1,400-mile height of the city will produce the length of the distance at the top of the city: s = 0.35324 rads x (3,963.3 + 1,400) miles =  0.35324 rads x 5,363.3 miles = 1,894.5 miles! That’s 494.5 miles more!

This is why mathematically the pyramid shape is superior to the cube. It still fits with a length and a width of “1,400 miles,” and the center of the city will also be “1,400 miles” high. The walls of a such a pyramid on a flat surface are normally at an angle whose tangent = 2: tangent alpha = opposite (height) / adjacent (1/2 length) = 1,400 miles / 700 miles = 2. The angle whose tangent is 2 is 63.435 degrees. This angle will also be reduced by that 10.1195 degrees = 53.315 degrees. The upper angle of the city would be twice that of the complement of 63.435 degrees: 2 x (90 degrees - 63.435 degrees) = 53.130 degrees! Therefore, from close up, the city would APPEAR to be an equilateral triangle. Thus, the length of the wall along its angle upward would APPEAR to have the same length as the true length (or width) of the city.

AND, from a sufficient distance away, the TRUE height of the city can be measured to be the same as the length (or width) of the city!

I used to think the stadion was equal to 582 feet. Thus, the length (width and height) would be 1,322.7272727 miles. Now, however, I believe that the Greek stadios is equal to the Roman stadium, which was 660 feet. This would produce a length (width and height) of 1,500 miles. While the numbers are a little different, the same conclusions can be drawn.

Shalom, bopeep1909.

Look, it’s really simple: A “square” is TWO-DIMENSIONAL, not three. So, when the Scriptures say that the city “lieth foursquare,” it is simply saying that it sits on a two-dimensional square surface. It is NOT saying that it is a cube! Let’s just start with that for now.

- So glad to see this topic on New Jerusalem.

Even Jesus Disciples said,

"Here we have no continuing (Jerusalem) City, but we seek the one to come (New Jerusalem). - Heb.13:14

More myths and legends from Retrobyter.  Please note carefully (Rev 21:16):

And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

So what do we see from this description:

1. It is a city

2. The city is a square

3. Each side is 1,500 miles (12,000 furlongs)

4. The city has LENGTH, BREADTH, AND HEIGHT (so it is three dimensional)

5. When we put this all together we have A CUBIC CITY (some claim it is pyramidal but pyramids are pagan structures).
