We need to crucify the flesh to abide deeper in Christ and His Truth. In order to maintain clarity (which is always conducive to the truth) we need to see this as:TRUTH vs LIES (doctrine or beliefs)THE FLESH vs THE SPIRIT (practice or attitudes and actions)When we "walk in the Spirit" we are automatically "crucifying the flesh".
