Since Cletus mentioned this statement from Scripture in another thread, we owe this thread to him. So here is what the apostle Paul prophesied regarding the time in which we live (2 Timothy 4:3,4):

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

What we see here is:

1. Rejection of sound doctrine in the last days

2. A desire for unsound doctrines based on "their own lusts"

3. A desire for teachers who will satisfy the "itching" of their ears with something new and different, and the more "mystical" the better.

4. A deliberate "turning away" or rejection of the truth

5. A huge appetite for fables (fanciful doctrines).

What we are seeing over and over again on various forums, as well as other media such a books, TV, magazines, etc. is (a) a rejection of the doctrine of the Trinity, (b) a rejection of the teaching that Jesus is indeed God, (c) a rejection of salvation by grace through faith, (d) a rejection of the Bible doctrine of Hell, (e) a turning back to the Law of Moses to establish righteousness.

What's a Christian to do?  Paul says "Hold fast the form of sound words..." (2 Tim 1:13).

Looks like nobody has much to say about this matter, even though false doctrine is cropping up every time one turn's around.

Your singing to the choir,  but backwards from its original meaning.  Usually that means ((I think)) that what your saying  most of your listeners are already knowledgeable of ((usually?)) IN AGREEMENT WITH.

Today, on forums open to the world, false doctrine is not cropping up.  It is already full blown growing freely and accepted by most of your listeners.((they and we all with few exceptions grew up in a pernicious town (( "it takes a town" ) society whose whole intent and purpose is to drag as many down with it as possible . ((from Yahweh's WORD Breathed thru Yahshua and revealed by Revelation of Yahshua thru  Paul's Message in Galatians))

Yahshua did not send Sheep out to a Green Pasture, but out in the midst of ravenous wolves. ((and told us all to depend on the Father ! and REJOICE - He has overcome the world))

that's how Jesus referred to the teachers / bearers of false gospel, /works promoters/

but not to those deceived by the enemy - He brought LIGHT (( HE HIMSELF )) to set them free. ((He came to seek and to save the unrighteous. HE DIED FOR US WHILE WE WERE STILL DEAD IN SIN.  He Seeks Lost Sheep)).

try to find "How Can They Live Without Jesus" by Keith Green ((His Gospel Song Live))...

Ezra, you have put into words something that has been on my mind a lot lately.  More and mre we are seeing the rising up of 'teachers' who have no business teaching and, yes, I'm talking about right here on WCF.  The reams of text being uploaded here are not discussion; they constitute an attempt to teach whatever 'gospel' the individuals believe in.  I have seen thousands of words uploaded to answer another's question.  Seriously, does anyone believe the one responding just typed what is essentially an essay on the fly? There is only ONE gospel and it's our duty as believers to challenge these spiritulizations and departures from Scripture every single time they pop up.  Opinions are fine; presenting that opinion as fact is not.  In the past teaching has not been permitted on this site and I am stumped as to why we have so much of it now.  Whatever the reason, it has to be exposed for what it is and rejected by all who believe in the Word. Even if I agree with what is being put forward, I'm totally against the unskilled teaching the new believers and undedideds that come here. Thanks for putting this out there; it needed to be said.

Right, Steven; and sometimes they don't KNOW they're leading others in the wrong direction.  But they will know for sure soon.

God has given us the ability to be delivered, be taught, be secured, all by His Own effort all we have to do is
reckon ourselves dead and His Life as our own... all will be without excuse in the day of reckoning ...  'all'
without exception- I hate humanism it stinks really bad   Love ya, Sis

Amen, MG, and well said. All genuine believers must challenge every departure from the truth.  Which means that we should know the Word.  Please note what Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:2-4 (which ties right into the thread):

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
