One thing I do know that the heart that God loved in this statement

1 Sa 13:13-14

13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.
KJV

This in reference to Saul about David who would be king. Note the reference "a man after God's own heart" . This man, 'David', says this

Ps 119:97
97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
KJV

Now the question: Does the spirit of your post LadyKay match the spirit in David that God took note of?
Love, Steven

No ones beating you over the head, I don't keep the Old testament laws either, just the commandments and other sensible commandments like don't mark or cut your skin. We are the image and likeness of God and God does not have butterflies or any other cute markings on himself.

Just reminding you that God has set certain standards that He expects his children to follow. This is one of them as are the ten commandments. Do you try and keep them? I do my best, and I'm sure you do also so why promote marking ones skin? I worked with a young man who at 18 years of age started off with a simple nice looking tattoo, and within five years he was covered from head to toe in the rubbish.

Old testament law;

Leviticus 19:28 states: "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you:

Old testament commandments;

Exodus 20:1,And God spake all these words, saying,
    2, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
    3, Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
    4, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
    5, Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
    6, And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
    7, Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
    8, Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
    9, Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
    10, But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
    11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
    12, ¶ Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
    13, Thou shalt not kill.
    14, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
    15, Thou shalt not steal.
    16, Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
    17, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Disobeying God is sin. A little sin or a big sin, makes no difference. deliberate sin separates us from God - Small tattoo or large ugly tattoo, make no difference, God says don't do it. Nothing hard to comprehend here?

This whole topic was called "What Do You Think Of Tattoos". I have said what I think of them, and others have said what they think of them. So I hope the original poster got the input they were looking for.

I got what I was looking for. I searched the Bible to see what God has to say and God says, "DONT DO IT,"  That's good enough for me. If one had tattoos before conversion, one is forgiven, but to get further tattoos after conversion, this is disobeying God.

Why do some here argue against what God says, trying to smooth things over, negating the Word of God, by insinuating, "O'h,  that's ok, its only a little butterfly, or its only a little flower, or I love my mummy,?"

Leviticus 19:28, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, not print any marks upon you: I AM THE LORD,"

Love you Joe, They are nice tat's., but are they not to remind people of those who bravely lost their lives defending our freedom's? God says don't do this, even for the dead. Thanks my friend.

"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear me" (Psalm 66:18).

"He that turneth away his ear from hearing The Law, even his prayer shall be abomination" (Proverbs 28:9).

Leviticus 19:28, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, not print any marks upon you: I AM THE LORD,"

i.e. it is the sin in the heart that even considers getting what GOD FORBIDS.

Similar to ADULTERY or IDOLATRY -    obviously PRACTICING these are sin - and JESUS SAID EVEN THINKING THEM IS SIN ---

so also whatever HE forbids.

If a man after conversion says in his heart, I don't think God will mind a small tattoo, he is in sin already.

If you are asking me personally why I do not agree with you on Leviticus 19:28. The reason is that I think the way the verse is being used here is out of contexts to its meaning. Markings on the skin back in Leviticus day were considers a pagan practice. Done by people whom I assume were pagans.  From what I can tell from the verse, they must of marked their skin for the dead. What is really being forbidden here is  pagan religious customs,including pagan mourning rites. (cuts in your body for the dead) The practice of cutting the face and arms and legs, in time of bereavement was a religion practice done by pagans. The “tattoo” marks described in Leviticus were clearly related to false religious practices. Today a tattoo is a decorative means of self expression and personal decoration. It has nothing to do with religion unless you want it too. So what God is forbidding in Leviticus 19:28. is the customs of the pagan religion. Since tattoos and ear rings today have nothing to do with pagan religion or  linking a person to a religion, I see no harm in them.

Now I am sure you are going to disagree with everything I said here and are going to accuse me of justifying sin and all of that. To that I say this. I am not justifying sin. Because I don't see tattoos as sin. What I am doing is looking at Leviticus 19:28, and with my own understanding; look at it for what I personally believe it to mean. So there you have it. Me answering your question as to why I am disagreeing with you. I hope I have answered in a respectful way.

I am not sure what your verse here has to do with tattoos. Perhaps you could explain?
