We have been attending a church for about 18 years or so.  My kids were raised in this church.  Now they are not liking to go because there is no one their age there.  I understand that church should be about God not everything else.  There is another church available in the area. But we have made a lot of friendships and what not in the church we are in.

Not sure if we should switch or not?

You don't have a good enough reason for switching.  If there are no young people who are in the same age group as your kids, it's about time that you as a family, and also your church family, got busy reaching out to kids in your community and bringing them in.

And your kids should also be involved in outreach, so that there is a large group of young people in your church. Bring this matter to the attention of your church leadership and let them know that this is a serious issue.

That's part of the issue as well.  This is a pretty small community.  Most of the younger families, or at least families with children that are our kids age already go to this other church.

A lot of them switched due to lack of children ministry at our church.  My wife and I and one or 2 other families, out of a congregation of around 700, are the only people that they can get to teach children's church at ours.  This is only for kids from about 5 to 5th grade.

Are there other communities within a reasonable radius which should be reached?  Also, if there are not enough people in your church interested in children, then the leadership should take some responsibility and some initiative.

Yes you would think so.  And I have brought this issue up to the pastor and some of the elders.

What is a "good" enough reason and what is it based off?   There are no biblical rules or guidelines for changing churches, but then again there are no such rules for staying at one church forever either.  These are western Christians idea that have no biblical basis

This is something you and your wife need to discuss and pray about.  I don't have kids so I really can't answer as to what I would do.  But your right, it is all about Jesus.  However kids need fellowship to.  If not they could sour on church all together.  Maybe try that church you mentioned and see how they like it and to check out and make sure that church preaches the Gospel.

Blessings, RustyAngeL

A "good enough" reason would be false doctrine or unbiblical practice.

Can you provide a biblical reference to the reasons that are "good enough"?

Pray about it and allow the Lord to guide you. The only true church is Jesus setting at the right hand of God.
