I was driven to my knees.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.

We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.

We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism.

We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, to open ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen"

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev.Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on "The Rest of the Story" on the radio and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called one nation under God.

:41:

...however,

not all welfare cases are simply 'laziness', and also multiculturalism - if an added culture doesn't assimilate into the adopted country, it goes pearshaped.

Ah, it seems there is more, And here is the rest of the story ( Perhaps)

Additional credit is due. From Lamb and Lion ministries comes this:

"The great prayer reproduced below was written by Bob Russell who, at the time, was pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, one of the nation’s largest churches. Pastor Russell delivered the prayer at a breakfast hosted by the Governor of Kentucky.

A year later on January 23, 1996, Joe Wright, who at the time was pastor of Central Christian Church in Wichita, Kansas, decided to deliver the same prayer, with some minor changes, before the House of Representatives of the Kansas Legislature. It garnered nationwide attention when the Democrat leaders in the legislature condemned the prayer. Later, when it was read by Paul Harvey on his radio program, it prompted the largest response in the history of the program as thousands wrote in requesting copies of the prayer.

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and seek your direction and guidance. We know your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that’s exactly what we’ve done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values." ....

Te prayer is a good prayer, one that burns te heart for it rings of truth about the failing of a country and it's people. It declares we have no excuse, that change is necessary for we are an affront to our creator in what we do corportely under the guise of governmental will.

I think this is a fine fine prayer to be laminated placed on refrigerator doors to be seen and to be prayed again and again, and yet again. God forgive us  and lead us to courage to change our way.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery

Oh I might want to quibble with that aspect. Perhaps we do exploit the poor by faking that  we will improve public education by  gambling on a raffle the reward of it being so high as to overcome reason and even prayer I suppose.

Hmm the fun of speculating what  a great windfall  of money will mean, and the error of thinking that  then I could do good in the name of God like I have never done before being folly. For nothing stops me now except that I am not going about the doing now. Hmmm. What to do? It is a good prayer makes me think and want to pray over my own little pleasure of speculation on a raffle the Powerball. I mean if I did win i would repave th eparking lots of th church, a goo dthing, right? Maybe it is not necessary to win, maybe we can do without Powerball winnings eh?

Great  prayer!

In this past year I've almost been exclusively reading the OT. At first I thought God must be nuts to keep favoring the Jews considering they kept sinning against Him. But then I realized we're doing many of the same things. One example is in Daniel where he asks God to forgive his people. Now I often pray as Daniel did. I was born in 52 and yes, America was sinning but I've watched as it keeps getting worse. So far God has been giving us His favor but I think we're wrong if we think God doesn't have His limits. He did with ancient Israel and I'd bet He will with us too. What we do matters to God, both here and after we leave this life. We're lucky God is immortal so time isn't His primary concern. Although it shouldn't be primary to us neither. Is America making any progress to obey God? I don't think so, but am I making progress in obeying God? Compared to 40 yrs ago I've made a little progress. Maybe America has also I just don't see it. We do have a White House Bible study for the 1st time in 100 yrs. I believe it's lead by Ralph Drollinger and I've listened to him online, he seems to know what he's saying. So like myself America has made a little progress. There is 1 sin that's worse to God than the others. In the Bible it's called idol worship but today that can take many forms. All idols are, at best, nothing other than what a person thinks it is. But at worst it's Satan himself who happens to be God's #1 enemy. The more I realize this the more I understand some of the things God has done.

I loved that prayer.
