In Gen 3 God said this...Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever It seems pretty clear to me that God is saying that eating of the tree of life would allow them to live forever. Only one of those things happened on the day that Adam and Eve ate the fruit. If they were made immortal, why did they need to eat from a tree that made them live forever? I do agree... Hi Running Gator, If there was such a thing as a `tree of life,` then the Lord Himself would not have had to die. We only would have to say sorry to God, repent and then be given this wonderful fruit that gives us eternal life. Note - all scripture is to reveal Christ to us, His holy character, His amazing attributes and His wonderful purposes. That, again, assumes a purpose for the tree of life not stated in Scripture. If they were NOT immortal, then why curse them with physical death? That doesn't speak to the purpose of the tree for Adam in his unfallen state. Adam was immortal and unable to die physically prior to the fall, as God did not engineer death into creation.
