Missing the Mark: Sin

The defintion of sin means to “miss the Mark.” It is to shoot for a target and not hit the bullseye. How does this change how we look at sin which is a word that has almost mysterious and terrifying sound, Sin goes with Sinister. But missing the Mark sounds like an archer who wants to hit the bullseye and keeps missing and thankful every arrow is caught in the blood of Christ and you can draw again and shoot for the bullyseye again.

Perhaps from G1 (as a negative particle) and the base of G3313; properly to miss the mark (and so not share in the prize), that is, (figuratively) to err, especially (morally) to sin: - for your faults, offend, sin, trespass.

I love how you brought in the Greek. Missing the Mark is indeed falling short and this has always made me curious that while Cain killed his brother Abel, God not only did not remove his felt presence and cease to talk to his, but protects him: 

“Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is too great to bear! 14 Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground; and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.” 15 So the Lord said to him, “Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him.” (Genesis 4:13-15). Interestingly when it says Cain was driven from presence of the Lord, the word presence doesn’t mean presence as in his felt presence but translated: “panim or paneh: face, faces, before.” (Strong’s Concordance).

We do not sin because we have  " missed the mark "  .

We miss the mark because we are sinners .
