I see the book of Ecclesiastes as one of the most profound books ever written. I believe it is very relavent in our present day culture. The author who is believed to be Solomon spoke about the Vanity of life. He sought wisdom, pleasure, accomplishment, hard labor, Human religion, wealth, sex and found it all to be vanity. He covered many areas of life and laid out a Godly way to add balance. I read this book and as much as any book in the Bible, God can speak to me on how I can rethink my attitude and gain his peace. I would like to hear what others think about this book as it might apply to their own lives. Is it relavent to you? Does it help you in your perspective? What parts of it touch your life? (if you can share it) I would like to hear what you think.

I might start reading this book weekly.

God Bless

Dan

The book simply states that everything and anything apart from God is meaningless. The verses that sum it ALL up in chapter 12:

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

It is one of my favorites as well.

Greetings Dgolvach,

I too think the book of Ecclesiastes is a great book. BUT, it is because of the "conclusion" that Solomon ends up with:

Eccl 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

If any man thinks that he is something, he should read this book. Solomon did it all - wine, women and song. Wealth beyond imagination. And yet, for all this He concludes that we should fear God and keep His commandments, for one day we shall be judged for what we do with what God has given us.

The book tells me of the evil that is "in my flesh" and as Paul said that in his flesh was no good thing. So we should be content with our life and give God praise for all that He has done for us.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

If I am way off the topic, please tell me. I read a verse from Ecclesiastes yesterday in Sunday School about a man asking Jesus what to do and not wanting to give up wealth. Ecclesiastes 5:10

Kitten,

I don't really see this as God saying that a wealthy person is condemned. Its really about where you put your faith. From what well do you draw your peace. Money? Sex? Fame? Knowledge? There is a whole smorgasbord of things to choose from. I have sampled many of these including a small bit of wealth. Its all fool's gold if you think it will buy you peace. Sometimes Christians get caught up in this. Its not that hard. Jesus asks us what comes first in our lives. Wealth or him? Wealth in and of itself is not evil. In many cases its a blessing and a sign that you have made some wise choices. But would you be willing to give it up in exchange for God's peace? The whole point is this: without Gods peace you really have nothing. Its all grasping for the wind. Hopefully a person dosen't spend all of his or her life learning this lesson. Jesus said that to drink from his well ment no more thirst. I am quiet tired of being thirsty. I want more than salvation. I want peace and ASAP! In this life as well as the next. Its almost selfish in a way but its what I want. Inner peace. A durable one on one relationship with God. It might sound a bit lofty but why not? A serene place that the world can't touch.

Peace to you

Dan

Me too Dan! Me too.

Psalm 55:6 So I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. 7 Indeed, I would wander far off, And remain in the wilderness. Selah 8 I would hasten my escape From the windy storm and tempest."

16 As for me, I will call upon God, And the Lord shall save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice. 18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, For there were many against me.

In His Love,

Suzanne

Wow! Our God is awesome. This book is every bit as relevant today as it was waaay back then. Not a jot, nor a tittle, short of the point. :) I remember thinking back before I became a Christian, that if I had everything I could think of at that time, that it would still not be enough to fill something that was missing. Not so today! Truly I was created for Him!

Not that I don't go through fiery trials much of the time. It's just different now. I have the comfort of His company. Not because I feel it. But because He said it! As Abraham walked by faith, so do I.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
