A little gem by Hudson Taylor...

Abide in Me, and I in you.  John 15:4

The word "abide" ... is rather that of rest than labor; it suggests not attainment or struggle, but quiescent enjoyment.  Failure to recognize this simple fact lies at the root of many of the fallacies which hinder Christian people from enjoying the rest of God, abiding in Christ.

An encouraging message from a much respected missionary. Thanks. :)

A quote I'd like to share-

“However strong the branch becomes, however far away it reaches round the home, out of sight of the vine, all its beauty and all its fruitfulness ever depend upon that one point of contact where it grows out of the vine. So be it with us too.”
 Andrew Murray, Holy in Christ

@Debp

Excellent post, this brought up a thought in my brain.

If one is not “abiding in Christ” that would mean the opposite also would have to be true. Which would be they were “abiding in self”.

For those are the only two choices either; self or Christ, all things fall into one of these two categories. It’s either you are “abiding in Christ” or by default you are “abiding in self”.

Blessing for the post. Time for me to get some coffee. :)

Such a strong quote as to the necessity of a strong personal relationship with Christ. Love AM, such a great writer, loved his book “abide in Christ”. Blessing !

Rest in Him, enjoy Him, trust Him. That's how I interpret "abide in Me."  In turn, He will do the same even if we don't abide in Him because He has already made the decision and commitment.

Thank God this is true. That God remains faithful even when we are not. Even more, we have His promise that He will prefect that which concerns us. Blessed are we to have such a great and loving Creator. Blessings

Another meditation by Hudson Taylor...

I am the vine, ye are the branches.  John 15:5

Accept by faith the statements of scripture on the subject of abiding in all their fullness.  Christ not only uses the present tense in saying, "I am the Vine," but also in "Ye are the branches." His word is not seek, strive; but count on what I am, and on what is now your relation to Me.

Oh yes, this parable of the vine and the branches, there is just so much in there. A perfect analogy of our relationship with Christ. That as believers we could come to understand by experience in a deeper and deeper way what is meant by;

  “He is the vine we are the branches”.

(Sometimes I think there’s enough in there to meditate for a lifetime.).  Blessings

Thank you for this thread.  If I may interject: a most memorable chapter in Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secrets; Chapter 10 A Man Shut Up to God.

Nothing before, nothing behind:
The steps of faith
Fall on the seeming void, and find
The rock beneath.
J. G.  Whittier

So it was alone on the sands at Brighton that Sunday morning, that he met the crises of his life.

"In great spiritual agony, I wandered out on the sands alone. And there the Lord conquered my unbelief, and I surrendered myself to God for this service. I told Him that all the responsibility as to the issues and consequences must rest with Him; that as His servant, it was mine to obey and to follow Him, His to direct, care for and guide me and those who might labour with me. Need I say that at once peace flowed into my burdened heart?"

...for His glory.
