1- The ICC is an indirect descendant of the "Restoration Movement" of the early 1800's. There was a wave of revivals (called "campmeeetings") in the Midwest at that time. The "Campbellite" movement emerged at this time, with Joseph Campbell, Barton Stone, et al. They studied the Bible and observed the intimate unity of the early Christians. So they renounced their former denominational affiliations and creeds, vowing to call themselves "Christians", and nothing else. They came to believe that the Bible should be held as the authority in religion, and not some man-made creed, confession, or catechism. This was a fairly novel concept in American Protestantism at the time. Hence, the first modern American concept of "non-denominational".

Several groups emerged from this movement, such as the "mainline" Church of Christ (the conservative wing), and United Church of Christ, Congregational Churches, and Disciples of Christ (the liberal wing).

We call ourselves "non-denom" because we subscribe to no man-made creed, following the example of the Restoration Movement.

Which chat room was it?  Previous to Worthy Boards I had been in other Christian Chat rooms but there was not much Christian about them.

It was called GCN, or Global Christian Network. Later, they changed the name to iExalt, and made a bunch of changes. Not what it used to be, I miss the old format.
