Paul Gerhardt one of my favorites, also Augustus Toplady.

"Rock of Ages"     since 1763, still on my top ten list!

The oldest hymnal was 50 years old a few years ago when I gave it to a young man studying to become a pastor.

@Debp That is a cool story.

One of my favorite hymn writers is Fanny Crosby, who was blind yet wrote over 8000 poems (which were coupled with music.) Praise God!

Is anyone out there familiar with her hymns? One of her most well known is "Blessed Assurance." In the church I grew up in we had such a nice hymnal where hers were a favorite in it. :)

I found an excellent church produced documentary-play about her life. It features some of her best hymns. I saw it on YouTube recently and would highly recommend it. Very nicely done.

For anyone interested, type into YouTube's search these words:

"A Musical on the life of the blind hymn writer "FANNY CROSBY"
