To the first post, no, I don't want to have anything to do with Harry Potter.

I , against my better judgement, was enticed into watching the first movie.

I try my hardest to go by that. I used to drink but since having the Lord in my heart, I feel wrong if I pick up a drink so, I put it down. I felt it in my heart!

I am sorry that your ex is this way. Maybe you could come to a compromise with her about your children.. They are your children too! When you get your children, witness to them. No one is too young. I too hate when people take entertainment and live by it, in this case the Harry Potter movies/books.

My big fat opinion, which is sometimes contrary to the popular one?

Some Christians are too busy worrying about things that go "bump" in the night than they are about the salvation of their neighbors. Harry Potter is good literature. Kids today don't know how to read, write, and communicate effectively enough. WSB you commented just the other day about a poster's grammar. Well guess what? The literacy and comprehension of American children - and adults in America is roughly between 20% and 30%. That's somewhere in the region of between 60 and 90 million people over 15 who can't read or write. And it's getting worse (http://indian-river.fl.us/living/services/als/scope.html).

I've written it several times here, and I will write it again. My daughter has read the entire Harry Potter series through at least 2 times, and some of the books more than 3. She does not practice witchcraft, nor does she believe that anything in those books is real. She doesn't walk around the house chanting to herself, and she doesn't wear dark clothing.

What it all boils down to ultimately is what kind of job you are doing as a parent to raise your children in the admonition of the Lord. If you raise your children to love the Lord with all of their heart, and to understand what the church is and how they can live godly lives, then you should not have to worry about "the evils of Harry Potter"....or Star Wars...or Gremlins....or anything else.

I am WAY more worried about the garbage my daughters pick up from their classmates and at the liberal institutions that I place my hard-earned money in to support, than a silly little fantasy book.
