I have been blessed by many versions of scripture.

I agree that the NKJV is a good option.

have you looked at the Amplified?

this is the one i am getting my dad for fathers day ( large letter )

what i like about it, and the reason i am getting it for him, is that a person that is not well versed in old english can read it fairly well, and it does get across (closer ) what the original writtings were trying to get across....

The amplified is a good Bible for reference, but I don't think it is the best for day-to-day reading. The Amplified Bible will take a verse that has 8 words and make it 18. This is helpful for bringing out meaning in a passage, but I think the reader will get verbosity overload if they use it for a devotional.

I agree that the NKJV is probably the best for day-to-day devotional reading and is what I use for that purpose.

Don't forget about the NASB. Enough good things cannot be said about that translation.

I like the KJV, and NKJV. I did a lot of research before I decided these were the best for accuracy for me. :whistling:

Try the New American Standard Bible....Then You will have all the books of the Bible that were in place for 1,600. After the Reformation 7 books were removed from the original Bible. Any of the Bibles listed previously will not have the Books of Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabes, 2 Maccabes, Wisdon, or Sirach, which were all in the Old Testament. I often times have poeple tell me that the Catholic Church added these books, but its just the opposite, the Protestant Reformation removed these books becasus it didn't fit with their new doctrine. Something to think about. :whistling:
