I'm not a bible scholar so I'm sure somebody else knows more than me but I'll take a guess.

My first thought is they could represent the "fruits of the Spirit".

Another possibility comes to mind when I think of something

I heard RC Sproul talk about how. He showed a contrast and comparison between things which God is pleased with verses things God is displeased in.

For instance, if God says there are seven deadly sins, yea, one is an abomination....

And He lists those sins...you might deduce that the opposite of those sins are what pleases God.

*I sure hope I'm saying this right*

For instance, if God says it's an abomination for someone to cause division amongst brothers, then it stands to reason that what God wants is for brothers promote peace and to love one another.

Or if a haughty look is a gross sin  against God, then a humble heart would be pleasing to him.

Or if a lying tongue is a sin, then surely lips that speak the truth would be pleasing and acceptable to Him.

That said, if you take the opposite of the seven deadly sins and give the opposite...then perhaps these are the qualities and character most pleasing to God.

Perhaps this would reveal the tendencies or character of the seven spirits mentioned.

Not sure if that made any sense or not...

Hi Bibleboy,

The number 7 is mentioned 54 times.

It is associated with completion, fulfillment and perfection.

In Revelation there are 7 lampstands, 7 churches and 7 Spirits, 7stars, 7 horns ,7 eyes of the Lamb, 7 seals of the scrolls., 7 trumpets,7 thunders,7 heads of dragon,7 golden bowls,7 Kings,7 angels.

Many understand this to refer to the Holy Spirit in His perfect fulness.

Allow me to ask you a question before you read the following verses.

Is a lamp of fire a candle and a candle a lamp of fire?

How would one accurately describe the Jewish mennorah?

The menorah has one base with one center lamp of fire and three on each side?

Are the seven candlesticks in the book of revelation in reality emblematic of the jewish menorah

Rev 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

Rev 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

The seven Spirits are the seven churches.

Sorry I did not  answer your question sooner .

What are the churches as they relate to today? That is, not the churches mentioned in Revelations but who/what are they today.

Those churches back then {in Revelation} aren't church denominations today ...at least not by names we'd recognize.  Or if they are, which denominations do they represent?

Why do they call them "spirits" since spirits are invisible?

The seven Spirits are undoubtedly the Spirit of God because They are ranked among the Triune God in vv. 4 and 5. As seven is the number for completion in God's operation, so the seven Spirits must be for God's move on the earth. In essence and existence, God's Spirit is one; in the intensified function and work of God's operation, God's Spirit is sevenfold. This is similar to the lampstand in Zech. 4:2. In its existence it is one lampstand, but in its function it is seven lamps. At the time this book was written, the church had become degraded; the age was dark. Therefore, the sevenfold intensified Spirit of God was needed for God's move and work on the earth.

In Matt. 28:19 the sequence of the Triune God is: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Here the sequence is changed. The seven Spirits of God are listed in the second place instead of the third. This reveals the importance of the intensified function of the sevenfold Spirit of God. This point is confirmed by the repeated emphasis on the Spirit's speaking in 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22; 14:13; 22:17.

At the opening of the other Epistles, only the Father and the Son are mentioned; from Them grace and peace are given to the receivers. Here, however, the Spirit is included; from Him grace and peace are imparted to the churches. This too indicates the crucial need of the Spirit to counteract the degradation of the church for God's move.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
