Kansas Dad,

I'm going to have to make this quick, because my husband is on the way home and I need to go make dinner for the two of us. But, let me take a quick stab at it - oh, btw, yours was good.

In context, this is talking about taking communion, which is a remembrance of Jesus blood that was shed for us and his body that was hung on the tree for us. It says that a man should examine himself before he eats. To me, this means repentance. Before I take communion, I clear up anything in my heart (any known sins) prior to taking communion. Then, I can take communion in a "worthy manner." If I eat the bread and drink the cup and I am holding sin in my heart, then I bring judgment on myself, which could result in physical illness, not that all physical illness is a result of the judgment of God. When it states the if we judged ourselves we would not come under judgment, I think it is saying that if we did a soul searching prior to taking communion and we repented of any known sins in our hearts, then this judgment that it speaks of would not come upon us. We need to judge ourselves, examine our hearts to see if there is any sin in our lives - we do this with the help of the Holy Spirit within us. And, I think the last verse is basically stating that Christ judges us and disciplines us to make us holy so that we will not fall into the judgment the world will face - now, this gets into the whole matter of OSAS versus can you lose your salvation, I think, but I don't know if you want to go there with this. There are many, many scriptures that indicate that faith must be continuous if we want to receive the final reward of salvation, since salvation is not really complete until Christ returns.

Please Lord forgive this stupid human for he can only understand your message from the perspective of the flesh and not the perspective of the spirit. Amen.

But what kind of rewards can you give a spirit. Power means nothing, houses mean nothing, food means nothing, fishing at a mountain lake means nothing (thats my kind of reward) the only reward that would make sense is receiving the total acceptance of Gods love, but don't all saved spirits get that, surely one person doesn't receive less love than another. Likewise how do you punish a spirit, a spirit would feel no pain so again it would be the absence of Gods love, but it is not like you could have a little absence. If this whole reward/judgment thing isn't about the salvation of the soul then what is it about?

Kansas Dad - you lost me. Who is "this stupid human," and what did he say that you thought was so stupid? Maybe I'm stupid, because I'm not connecting the dots. I looked at the previous post and I didn't see the connection between that and what you said. What am I missing? Please help!!
