It is likely that most people think they are doing the right thing, either ethically or morally or just being friendly; and therefore, they'd probably consider themselves as "the good guy".

But what happens when you find out that through your words or actions, although unintentional, you became "the bad guy" in someone's mind. Either for just that situation, or perhaps their general impression of your character.

What do you do when you find out you have caused ill feelings or hurt upon another, especially when you had good intentions?

I would suggest one simple thing, pray! God will give the answer that I can't because I don't know your situation.

I don't personally have this situation currently in my life, but I have in the past.  As some say, "time heals", and perhaps with time, God is working to heal hearts scorned or misunderstandings to be tolerated.

You are right, no matter how you look at it, praying and trusting in His answers is really the best way.

I am talking about the very severe ones. They are unsightly. It is beyond heart- breaking. If one of those  kids came out to you and asked if they were “ ugly”, would you tell them the truth or would you think of some kind of lie to tell them to spare their feelings. That’s the kind of lieing that I am speaking of.I’d rather break a Commandment Of Moses and go to Hell before I would break the heart of a child. That’s my solemn decision.

You don't have to lie to not hurt a persons feelings when it come to looks, fashion, or any physical attributes or anything else for that matter. There are many things that can be said that are truthful, factual and will not hurt a persons feelings in such a way to permanently scar them in a bad way. They may even bring insight to the person instead of false encouragement, You just have to be caring enough to phrase your words carefully and they certainly don't don't need to be lies. And sometimes the truth hurts. But that kind of truth when taken in wisely can only strengthen a person

Lies do more harm than good and teaches nothing but deception.  And children may not always fully understand but they can pick up on what is deceptive.

The handicapped child I am sure would rather have more respect towards someone who says to them, well what has happened to you is not an easy thing, but you are not alone getting something uneasy to have to cope with. Actually your condition can bring solutions if only we look for them. Also these struggles of life can build character and make you stronger and bring you closer to your relationship with God and your fellowman. There you can even begin to open up discussions on God Plan of Mercy and Grace through His only begotten son Christ Jesus.

Lying is never a good thing, and don't underestimate peoples capacity of seeing through a person lies. Lies have no virtue.

I am a direct person, I usually tell it like I see it. When i see  something wrong I will not shy away from saying what I feel is wrong, and i would hope people would do the same to me. That is how we learn and can be corrected.

And next to lying as being not a virtuous thing, is underhanded passive aggressiveness meant to offend or  jab at a person or persons, that is Not how Christ would deal with a situation or person.

I rather know who my enemies are  than have a bunch of folks smiling at me with drawn knives in their backs.

Ecclesiastes 7:1-14  -Wisdom for Life-

A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume.
And the day you die is better than the day you are born.
Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties.
    After all, everyone dies—
so the living should take this to heart.
Sorrow is better than laughter,
for sadness has a refining influence on us.
A wise person thinks a lot about death,
while a fool thinks only about having a good time.

Better to be criticized by a wise person
than to be praised by a fool.

A fool’s laughter is quickly gone,
like thorns crackling in a fire.
    This also is meaningless.

Extortion turns wise people into fools,
    and bribes corrupt the heart.

Finishing is better than starting.
    Patience is better than pride.

Control your temper,
for anger labels you a fool.

10 Don’t long for “the good old days.”
    This is not wise.

11 Wisdom is even better when you have money.
Both are a benefit as you go through life.
12 Wisdom and money can get you almost anything,
but only wisdom can save your life.

13 Accept the way God does things,
for who can straighten what he has made crooked?
14 Enjoy prosperity while you can,
but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God.
Remember that nothing is certain in this life.

If my intentions are good and I am obeying the Lord's commandments, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If I did some damage, I might try to fix it. Sometimes an apology helps.

Your approach has its merits..... “IF” you are very fast on your feet if this “ ugly” question comes from out of the blue— they usually do.All dim wits like me could just lie and let God punish me .Lieing to spare one’s feelings?....God probably has bigger fish to fry......He might even decide to “ let me slide”...... that’s where I would put my money.....God looks at the heart...

Blood Bought, you do not have to be fast on your feet, you can be even handicapped and God will still be able deliver you from your rebellious spirit, if you repent and ask His to deliver you (deliver us from ALL evil, Matthew 6:13: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for Ever. Amen.”) ( willful rebellion comes from satan) If one repents and asks God through Christ for the sin of rebellion to be removed, God will do it and replace it with the spirit of obedience to His Word.  As true born again Christians , we are to repent from our rebellion and humbly subject ourselves to obedience to His Word. And so saying some thing positive or encouraging without lying does not take one to be quick on their feet. It just takes them to be obedient to Gods Word.  If we say we love God, and love His Word , we then also will be glad to most humbly follow and obey His Word. If we choose to keep rebellion instead of choosing obedience to His Word even though we know His Word and say we believe and love and have faith and are faithful His Word, then we lie to ourselves, as we are really choosing rebellion satanic witchcraft-unfaithfulness- over obedience to His Words of Truth

Giving excuses for lying and other sinning saying its all covered under the blood, is not living in obedient to Gods Word, and Gods promises cannot be granted to someone willfully disobedient to God, So a person willfully doing such, is missing out on what Gods meant for true salvation with His blessing to to be. If someone says they are a christian and is willfully disobedient to God and His Word, the person is choosing to live in  idolatry-disobedience, because they are saying they don't want to follow Gods Word but do their own thing. If a person who claims to be a christian continues willfully in doing their own thing instead of seeking to subject themselves humbly,  daily to obey Gods Word, they are living in rebellion/opposition to Gods Word and Gods Word calls rebellion the same as witchcraft.

1 Samuel 15:23 KJV

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

l Christians are called to be ambassadors to His Word, that means to strive to be obedient to Gods Word and live a Christ like lifestyle that is apart from the living of this world. God has called those in Him to be shinning lights unto the world and carry the message of  His Salvation daily. One cannot be a shinning light to others when they are willfully living in rebellion to Gods Word.  Choosing to live in rebellion is choosing to live away from God Word and his plan of Salvation.

A rebellious spirit needs to be repented of and delivered out of its evil stronghold in the person who claims to be christian but is willfully rebelling Gods Word.

If we are truly following Christ Jesus and are born again in Him , we become willing vessels to be molded into His new creation. We become willing vessels by turning our willfulness into obedience to His Word.

Philippians 2:12 “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Romans 13

13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

1And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Thanks for your concern.....

David stole and ate the shewbread from the Holy Tabernacle - BIG TIME sinning— under the strict , unbending Law that He was Living under.God was not concerned. He looks  at the heart.

Lieing to keep from hurting somebody’s feelings......send me to hell.....I will not hurt anybody's feelings...I wonder where a kind, caring Spirit like that comes from? Jesus gave us two rules.Believe and Love.Love trumps lieing......there exist the Letter  of The Law and the Spirit Of the Law.....David understood it and so do I.God is not the nit - picking , super stern Cop in the Sky eagerly waiting for us to mess up— even if just a little bit —so He can come down and “ get us”, gleefully punishing Us and then casting us into Hell. That ain’t  the God I have come to know. That other type of “ god”— I do not know him.I don’t want to.He only exists in the minds of those who do not really know Him.Thanks again for your concern....I figure it was sincere .God Bless.

Proverbs 6:16-19

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Proverbs 12:22

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.

Proverbs 19:9

A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish.

Psalm 101:7

No one who practices deceit shall dwell in My house; no one who utters lies shall continue before My eyes.

Colossians 3:9-10

Do not lie to one another seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

Proverbs 12:19

Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Luke 8:17

For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

John 8:44

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. ...

As for the scoundrel—his devices are evil; he plans wicked schemes to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right.

And the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab the king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said one thing, and another said another. Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, saying, ‘I will entice him.’ And the Lord said to him, ‘By what means?’ And he said, ‘I will go out, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And he said, ‘You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do so.’ Now therefore behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets. The Lord has declared disaster concerning you.”
