In fact, like you, sometimes I have had better and more reasonable advice from non-believers.  Non-believers can often see the big picture and remember what's important more (love, kindness, peace) over some Christians who get obsessed with the wrong things instead (verses, theology, tradition).

Wow, really. The word of God applied is not as reasonable as the reasonings of non believers those that do not know God. Well okay.  As for me, I'd say no it is not better advice, it may tickle one's ears but that doesn't make it better.

Neighbour, I have no need or desire to speak to you about this matter.  Your response tells me all I need to know.

Good, enough.  May God guide you to a resolve that does not bring you into further hurt.

Poor roots = poor fruits.

True. Rocky soil and no one willing to water will also produce poor if any fruit at all.

Ex 18 tells of Jethro giving Moses advice that he takes and it works out fine. God is NOT limited by anyone, but He warns us about taking advice from pagans and 'the fallen' and those that practice divination or the 'hidden arts'. (Freud and Jung)

thank you. its important for me to be a light and testimony

but i feel more comfort if someone doesnt tell me things that i just think people are out to get me. or im wrong about some thing i perceive.

and then i wonder since they ere christian maybe they are right?

today was a day of self condemnation very bad warfare. but im glad i can go to a place to ask about this :)

Perhaps it is wise to listen to others and to test everything they say against the Word of God to see if what they say is right. Christians get it wrong too.

"Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."  Acts 17:11

Sometimes it is necessary to confront a Christian, in love:

Galatians 2:11 (NIV)
11  When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong.

This comes as we study the Scriptures and put God's word into our heart.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (NIV)
6  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
7  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
8  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
9  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

I wish the very best for you, sister.

the bible says straighforward enough about not walking in the counsel of the ungodly.

i was convicted of that....only to fail at it recently because a few christians that i thought should be there for me the most failed me

i feel like this non christian friend validated my experience more

i do worry and feel crazy that maybe this person in leadership is right and think people really are out to get me. it seems like its a 5 to one ratio than 5 to ten if you get me.

but is it a sin if you have a non christian validate your facts and not define your reality?

I have learned the hard way that "christian" and "ungodly" are not exclusive terms.

Jesus said that the world will know people are christians by their love.  When I read I Cor 13 and compare it to the actions of many christians, I cannot help but notice the differences.

Choose counsel from people who have love like 1 Cor 13.

Expect judgement from people who do not.

Whilst Moses was aware of Yahweh, he neither followed Him or Israel.  Nevertheless, the advice he gave to Moses was accepted by him, utilised  and NOT refuted by Yahweh thereafter.

Did you mean Jethro in the first reference to Moses?

Lol.  Yes I did!  *facepalm.

Man, I surprised I wasn't hung for that one already!  Better correct it before the vultures arrive...  Thanks @lftc!

Who defines what is a sin?  If the scriptures are the key, then the problem is much bigger than where you get your advice.

Fortunately, the solution is even bigger:  Praise be to Jesus who delivered us from the penalty of sin.  Mercy.  It is of God.
