Hi Michael,

WOW, now that's some good looking stuff! Never heard of hanging pumpkins in my life? I'm going to have to check on our laws and recommendations here, I didn't even think about that when time comes to give most of it away? Perhaps the restrictions [if any here] will be lifted by July?

Your stuff makes mine look sick. Our soil around here is not the best, even when I fertilize it. I thought about raised beds but, I couldn't make them large enough to plant everything I want. Then they would become "deer feeding stations". I don't think I've ever tasted rhubarb, I've heard of rhubarb pie?

Lawn clippings, Dennis. 28 years of lawn clippings from my professional lawnmowing and landscaping business. I've been retired from the actual mowing for a number of years but I have a sub-contract worker who unloads his clipping woolpaks at our place. The nitrogen in the grass and the quick decomposition makes for a beautiful growing medium, along with the bulk supply of autumn leaves that come our way.

Thanks for your appreciative comments. I have admired your Kubota, having done much ploughing and rotary hoeing or tilling over the years. It may be worth fencing off your garden if it attracts the wildlife you mention. We use mesh over the strawberries, grapes, and blueberries otherwise the birds beat us to them.

Below: Roses I have planted, nurtured, and now enjoy in spring and summer.

Dennis, Kitazawa will have all the seeds you want... they are not in short supply yet.  You are smart in getting all your jars too.  I think the art of canning is lost to most of the population.  I did not know how to can myself until just a few years ago.  But it is really good to do.. although sometimes because the process is so time-consuming and  such hard work, the emotional attachment is high on those jars!  LOL!  They are an emotional investment.

We also have deer too, so I have to put high fencing around everything.  I had gophers one year and they just ate all my sweet potatoes, I did not get a single one!  I had over 50 plants too!  UGH!  I shot a couple of the rabbits that got in my garden.  I take no prisoners if something is after my garden.  They will die.  I don't like putting in all that work and effort only to have something else eat it! LOL  My dogs help in scaring away some of the critters and my cats take care of the moles.  Maybe you need some cats and dogs?

Good luck on your seed search and hope we can compare our garden escapades! :)

Good afternoon!

Yeah, soon as I log off here I'm going to check that website for seeds. Thanks to ya all for the kitazawaseed site!

Not many years ago I was using my Presto six quart pressure caner, six quarts at a time. It was taking 'forever' and I felt I wasn't getting anywhere compared to my time spent caning. It was expensive, but I purchased one of those American 14 quart at a time pressure caners. Ah, an investment well spent, and now I'm doing twice the caning in half the time. Having the little pressure caner, I was tempted to take some shortcuts to reduce time. A foolish thing even to consider. If your budget permits, I highly recommend that American pressure caner, no rings or gaskets, 14 quarts at a time, happy camper.

There's something about the sweet potatoes leaves, the deer around here will eat them to the ground?

:emot-fail: it is bad enough that my next door neighbour has a manicured garden and lots and lots of flowers ( good job we are friends lol ) and I have a black thumb and can even kill off plastic plants ( ice cubes work well when plastic plants left to dry on a radiator melt  ) but to come here and see how green fingered my brothers and sister are makes me want to go but a can of paint ( green ) and soak my fingers in it just to see if that will help

Whelp...

Weather permitting and decent soil conditions; TEN more days until I put on my Mr. Green Jeans and play in the dirt. :D If it frosts after that, I'll need to have a talk with those 'global warming' people.

Say hullo to our Aloe Vera. This variety can get very big but you just snap bits off and throw them down somewhere warm and they will grow for you.

I mean the following in two senses: Rub it in, rub it in.  :D

Wow, everything grows so nice and big in NZ! I'm green with garden envy, lol.

Are you aware of a ministry in your country named "Koinonia House", and the late Chuck Missler? They moved their headquarters to NZ not many years ago.

I would not dare start a garden. The critters would have the stuff eaten before I even harvested it.
