Asteroid Passes By Earth - Again

Since all of my astronomy articles are posted here, due to an immediate bump in General Discussions, I will continue to submit them here by administrative approval. If by chance anyone has something more in the lines of controversial, just PM me and I'll step aside. Just a disclaimer. Okay, back to the topic. The last time we experienced an asteroid coming into the somewhat near proximity of our planet was back in January. More will be expected, I  believe on the 20th this month.

Or last I heard. Last one was about the size of a VW Beetle automobile. Not too big, but still could potentially do harm if making impact. This on is about double decker sized. Not huge, but larger than a car. This one is supposed to pass even closer to home, but still miss the mark, thank the good Lord! I personally feel someday we're in for it. It's bound to happen, scientists say it's only a matter of time. I'll allow the article to speak for itself. Enjoy another safe day, everyone. God bless us. 

A small asteroid the size of a bus will fly safely by Earth today

Asteroid 2020 JA will pass at a range halfway to the moon.

A newly discovered asteroid about the size of a bus will zip safely by Earth today (May 4), passing at a distance just over halfway to the moon. 

The asteroid 2020 JA will fly by Earth at a range of about 148,000 miles (238,000 kilometers) when it passes today. That's about 0.62 times the distance between the Earth and the moon. (The moon is about 239,000 miles, or 385,000 km, on average.)

Asteroid 2020 JA is between 31 and 72 feet wide (9.6 to 22 meters), according to NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies. NASA's Asteroid Watch widget listed the asteroid's diameter as about 40 feet (12 m) and compared its size to a city bus.

Astrophysicist Gianluca Masi of the Virtual Telescope Project in Ceccano, Italy captured an image of 2020 JA with a telescope. In the image, the asteroid appears as a tiny point of light in a star field.

Small asteroids like 2020 JA zip by Earth several times a month, and typically pose no risk to our planet, NASA officials have said. For example, a tiny asteroid called 2020 HS7 passed Earth at a distance of 23,000 miles (36,400 km) on April 28 but posed no risk of impact.

Scientists with NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office regularly track near-Earth objects like comets and asteroids to search for potential impact threats to our planet. To date, astronomers have found 22,776 near-Earth objects, more than 95% of them discovered through NASA-funded surveys, the agency has said. 

New asteroids like 2020 H7 and  2020 JA are being discovered all the time at a rate of 30 each day, NASA has said.

Sounds interesting. I think it is entirely possible that it could happen one day. It has happened before. But maybe Jesus will return before and asteroid has the chance to come close

It would seem our Earth is due some devastation and cataclysmic occurrences as is mentioned in Revelation. Whether the planet could experience an asteroid or comet, no one truly knows. But it does seem entirely probable. With so many recent events like these and others expected, this does sound indicative. Let's pray it not be in our time. Thanks for your comment, brother. I'm looking for our Lord's return too!

Bus-Sized Asteroid To Fly Safely By Earth Today

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if any of you may also feel the aspect of asteroids, meteors, and comets impacting our planet could occur during the end times as mentioned in Revelation? I think we can all agree with the devastation that's also described. Perhaps a passage that might confirm that interests me quite substantially. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome for additional comments. Thanks!

Asteroids are minor planets, especially of the inner Solar System. Larger asteroids have also been called planetoids. These terms have historically been applied to any astronomical object orbiting the Sun that did not resolve into a disc in a telescope and was not observed to have characteristics of an active comet such as a tail. As minor planets in the outer Solar System were discovered that were found to have volatile-rich surfaces similar to comets, these came to be distinguished from the objects found in the main asteroid belt. In this article, the term "asteroid" refers to the minor planets of the inner Solar System, including those co-orbital with Jupiter.

Apparently, my information about the 2oth for the next asteroid was incorrect. My bad. Here's the latest update concerning the next expected event. Again, if a controversy such as appropriate attire hasn't already been well played and you want to continue along that avenue, or any other subject you feel is more important, drop me a little note in my message box. I'll hang this one up for the day. I'm still curious though, if anyone knows scriptures pertaining to these cosmic projectiles that have smitten our Earth. Were any ever written about or prophesied?
