Going back to Herman's Hermits, Peter Noone leader of the band, quickly began to grow up from the bubble gum pop music to those of thoughtful expressions in heartbreak. Towards the end of their career as a group, Peter composed a few excellent and memorable ballads. One thing that stood out was how great the musicians were. Tasty guitar licks even though it wasn't exactly like the hard rock band, Led Zeppelin. No Milk Today, was one of The Hermit's final few Top 40 hits. This is a good one!

  1. No Milk Today

No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn
No milk today it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
    Just two-up, two-down

No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day
As music played the faster did we dance
We felt it both at once the start of our romance

How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
    Just two-up, two-down

No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn
No milk today it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

I can't believe this brothers and sisters. Right now on the Turner Classics Movie Channel, (TCM) which airs international films in their entirety and without censorship or commercial interruptions, Herman's Hermits are starring in their very own movie right now, Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter. Wow. This is charming! Starring Peter Noone, leading role with the whole band. I had no idea they did their own film. This is cool!

Peter is about oh, 18 or so. They group are backing actors also and playing music throughout here and there as part of the script. This is wonderful! Set in London, England. I am going to watch this film now and get back to you with my reviews. I wish you could be here to enjoy it by my side. Bring me some popcorn! No, it's 5:30 am, too early. I'm gonna have cup of Twinings (UK) Tea - Ceylon Orange Pekoe, from India. My very favorite.

Now a little review of Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter movie, with Herman's Hermits. This film was made during the time period in London's Carnaby Street "mod" fashion craze. Flashy clothes and styles such as, mini skirts, paisley and polka dot shirts and blouses, big colorful neckties, wide wale corduroys and hound's tooth bell bottom trousers, and other assorted regalia. Hip fashion scene during 1966 - 1969.

Peter Noone played the starring role and the rest of the group in major parts for the story line. Peter and and lads move from Manchester to swinging London Town. They find a place to live and frolic about much like The Beatles in Hard Day's Night and Help. Well, Peter as Herman Tulley, falls hopelessly in love! The band performs in popular hot discotheques and pubs. This was very charming movie. I recommend it.

If you're a Herman's Hermits fan, don't miss this one!

P.S. I don't want to give away too much of the plot on this movie.

This is the big hit that put Herman's Hermits on the way to pop stardom. It really is a sweet song. Here is, Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter.

  1. Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter

Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter
Girls as sharp as her are somethin' rare
But it's sad, she doesn't love me now
She's made it clear enough it ain't no good to pine

She wants to return those things I bought her
Tell her she can keep them just the same
Things have changed, she doesn't love me now
She's made it clear enough it ain't no good to pine

Walkin' about, even in a crowd, well
You'll pick her out, makes a bloke feel so proud

If she finds that I've been round to see you (round to see you)
Tell her that I'm well and feelin' fine (feelin' fine)
Don't let on, don't say she broke my heart
I'd go down on my knees but it's no good to pine

Walkin' about, even in a crowd, well
You'll pick her out, makes a bloke feel so proud

If she finds that I've been round to see you (round to see you)
Tell her that I'm well and feelin' fine (feelin' fine)
Don't let on, don't say she broke my heart
I'd go down on my knees but it's no good to pine

Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter (lovely daughter)

Yes. Me too. Peter though allegedly from Manchester had a London Cockney accent. Not the uppity high class, but it's charming in my opinion. So were The Beatles Scouse Liverpudlian accent.

For a short few years, The Dave Clark Five gave The Beatles some hearty but not long lasting competition on the popularity status and in the Top 40. I've mentioned them and their best hits earlier in this thread. They too also did their own movie during a similar time period, as did Herman's Hermits and The Beatles. Catch Us If You Can, was also somewhat different in both plot and script. Just like A Hard Day's Night, this movie was also filmed in black & white.

It's lacking a little in quality side, personally speaking. There's not a lot of story line to this one for some reason. Catch Us If You Can, is more bold and shows some of London's hip set on a more seedy hedonistic sense. My thoughts are this approach was perhaps one that took them a step too far. There are some brief shots of cannabis usage in this film. This was a definite risk factor for them back then. DC-5 slipped on the charts not long after this movie was released.

P.S. Notice the lack of brilliance even in the lyrics on the title track of the film.

  1. Catch Us If You Can

    CATCH US IF YOU CAN
    The Dave Clark Five
    (Dave Clark / Lenny Davidson)

    Here they come again, mmmm-mm-mm
Catch us if you can, mmmm-mm-mm
Time to get a move on, mmmm-mm-mm
We will yell with all of our might

    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can

    Now we gotta run, mmmm-mm-mm
No more time for fun, mmmm-mm-mm
    When we're gettin' angry, mmmm-mm-mm
We will yell with all of our might

    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can

    ------ Harmonica ------

    Here they come again, mmmm-mm-mm
Catch us if you can, mmmm-mm-mm
Time to get a move on, mmmm-mm-mm
We will yell with all of our might

    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can
    Catch us if you can

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
