Bono used his fame and money to help millions of people in Africa. Since Mother Theresa....who has done more for the poor?

Are those millions saved? What good is the world to a man if he loses his soul?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I agree...and i disagree.

The evidence of a man's gift is not in the number of souls that he saves, but in how he advances the kingdom of God. I personally do not know how many souls have been saved either through U2's music or through Bono's personal preaching of the gospel. Do you?

There is no reason to assume that because Bono personally, or U2 as a band, is helping starving children in Africa (or in some other remote part of the world) that God is not using them to advance His kingdom. What is evident, however, is that some good toward humanity is being done with the money that are making. What does the Bible say about charity?

What does the Bible say about the various gifts? Bono may not be very gifted at preaching the gospel. And perhaps his music is his way of delivering the message. But apparently he is very gifted, and has a heart for humanity. This could be the way that the Lord is using him to advance His kingdom.

Don't be fooled into believing that quantity equals quality.

I wonder how many people here could live up to the scrutiny they are applying to Bono?

I don't know whether or not I personally would stand up, but I hope my brethren would question if I were in a position such as Bono's. If I were claiming to be a Christian and dressing up like a demon, I think I would be understanding if some misunderstood what I was doing. This sort of scrutiny I think comes with the territory, and while there is a fine line between scrutiny and gossip, I think it can be a good thing when done in the proper spirit.

And if we measured your success as a believer by the number of people you've personally led to the Lord....what would we determine? That is not meant to be harsh, but for you to honestly reflect on it. Do you measure your own life by the same standard you are measuring others?

As Ovedya stated, success isn't measured by quantity. If it were, nearly all of us posting here would be considered misreable failures. The fact is, God is the one that draws people to Himself. The bible teaches that it's kindness that leads to repentance, and the command to love others, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and protect the widows and orphans is not conditional on whether or not they are converted in this process.

I wonder how many people here could live up to the scrutiny they are applying to Bono?

Well, from my experience, most people can't even live up to the scrutiny of having what they post be challenged.

The problem seems to be, people are approaching the issue with a pre-set idea. Most aren't even willing to offer him grace or the benefit of the doubt. Also, since approaching Bono personally isn't a possibility for everyone, the chances of discovering the honest truth here is slim. I don't understand why people refuse to believe what has been written about U2 by people who KNOW them personally. They choose to believe the rumors instead and perpetuate things that are probably not even true. I guess it's human nature to enjoy slandering someone and believing the worst than... blessing someone in their efforts to meet the needs of others as God commanded us to do. Go figure.

I was just reminded of Luke 6:38, "Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, they will give into your bosom. For with what measure you measure, it shall be measured to you in return."

All that Bono does for Africa makes Bono look good, but how much value does it have in Heaven? If you use works to prove a man is "christian" I am asking what is the true worth of his works? It works both ways.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
