I have never been to a Shul or Synagogue, nor have I had any real Messianic type training, but my heart is Jewish.  I have been wondering how you "become" a Messianic believer.  I just know my heart.  Although I am very interest in the lifestyle and all, I have no one to teach me or show me.  I would be afraid to just show up at one of the Messianic churches (probably wrong word, sorry) because I wouldn't know what to do.

Actually, just this Saturday I confessed to a friend that I am almost envyous and jealous because I am not Jewish. ;)

Maybe someone could give me some pointers? :24:  :o

You sound like you've got what I call "The Zion bug"

Most messianics are not jewish anymore. It seems like a parellel to the early church which started out exclusively jewish but then gentiles found out how much fun it was, and took over. ;)

But I don't understand the need to become jewish that some people feel. We are adopted and equally loved by the Father.

I love all the "stuff" of being messianic; The Feasts, the onegs, Shabbat, etc....but that isn't why I'm messianic.

I believe that something went very wrong in the early church. It seems obvious with very little study that there arose a division between the hebraic and the hellenistic perspectives of the early church. An overview of the book of Romans will bear this out.

Competition between Rome and Jerusalem has seemingly always existed and the jews have seemingly always lost.

I digress....the early "Church Fathers" wrote some of the most bigoted and hateful things you will ever see about the jews as a race. I could never trust anything else they would say because of it.

Then, when christianity was codified into a religious institution during the first councils (nicea, laodecia) they conspicously didn't invite any of the jewish leaders of the church...and went on to outlaw anything remotely jewish.

This was the prevailing attitude of the institutional church for 1300 years and that isn't easy to "unteach" so it just became accepted as if it were the gospel itself.

I see the returning jewish people to their Messiah as the legitimate remnant of Israel and can't understand why every Bible believing christian isn't excited about being with them?

I go to a messianic synagogue...and an Assemblies of God church. The only differences I recognize are cultural and traditions. I am both messianic and christian, moving equally well in both worlds...but there IS a difference.

maybe I should bump up that "hebraic vs hellenistic" thread again?

Do you attend a synogogue on Shabbat too? I know of many in my congregation that do both. ;)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, we don't have a Messianic congregation here. We used to many, many, many years ago, but the man in charge passed away, and there was no one qualified to take over, and His wife was not able. So, it disbanded. I didn't find out about it until it was too late. So, I have found some loving Jewish and nonJewish believers in this area, who are interested in these things, and we get together for the Festivals.

I pretty much have to study on my own, though. I also lead a group called "I.S.A.A.C. (ISrael Advocacy Action Committee). We learn and teach others about what is going on in Israel, so that we can all write letters to our leaders and to Israel's leaders encouraging them to honor God's covenant with Israel. We remind them what the Bible says, and we even take up offerings to send gifts like kosher food baskets and such to Israeli soldiers.

I am sorry to hear about your disbanded congregation, but maybe it is for the best, it sure seems as if you are doing the L-RDs will were you are and ISAAC sounds wonderful!

I don't think it is a need to become jewish, I just want to be able to celebrate the feasts, shabbat, etc...and to learn. I don't know how to explain it Yod, it's not the "religon" I want, nor the "name". It's the knowledge and the understanding. Does that make sense?

I know what I am trying to say, it is just so hard to put in writing for me.

Blessings!

I am messianic... and attend a messianic congregation in Israel. When I lived in America I went to both a messianic congregation and a church. I loved the liturgy of the messianic congregation, but there were two in my area, and neither had a move of the Spirit. The one I was involved in and helped with was the more liturgical of the two (I might as well go all the way) and I got the moving of the Spirit at a charismatic church. However, the one I was in wasn't "orthodox" or weird like I see some today.... it is now part of MJAA, used to be part of UMJC... even though its very liturgical... it was very much into Jewish outreach, and disagreed with the UMJC's new stance.

The other messianic synagogue in town didn't even have aliyat hatorah. However, one thing I always look for in a messianic synagogue is their focus on the One New Man and that they don't outright condemn the church and call it evil. You can find messianic congregations that are less liturgical and condemn the church, and you can even find messianic congregations that are more liturgical, but in a good spirit... and vice versa. It isn't how liturgical it is, it is the spirit and attitudes of the people in the congregation... and that they don't slip into too much weirdness.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
