A far-right activist who was AWOL from his army unit murdered four Israeli Arabs and wounded 12 on Thursday evening when he opened fire while riding in an Egged bus in the northern city of Shfaram. He was then lynched by an

angry mob.

The shooter, identified as Natan Eden Zada, 19, of the Samaria settlement of Tapuah, had deserted his IDF unit and was on Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) watch lists. Despite this, Shin Bet sources said no warnings had been received regarding plans by Zada or other Jewish extremists to target the Israeli-Arab sector.

Among the victims were two young sisters, Hazar and Dina Turki, 23 and 21-years-old respectively, and the driver of the bus, Michel Bahous, 56. Nadir Hayak, 55, a passenger on the bus, was killed as well. The sisters will be laid to rest on Friday afternoon in Shfaram's Muslim cemetery, and the driver in the town's Christian cemetery.

The shooter also directed his fire outside the bus, and casualties included pedestrians and bystanders.

A furious mob of local residents stormed the No. 165 bus, which was traveling through a Druse neighborhood, and attacked Zada, kicking him

and throwing metal objects and bottles at him.

Police, who according to eyewitness accounts arrived late, surrounded the bus and tried to stop the angry crowd, but to no avail. The rioters got on the bus and killed the shooter.

Five policemen were also injured in the clashes.

Yekutiel Ben-Ya acov, the founder of the Jewish Legion, a far-right defense group based in Tapuah, said: "We will be stepping up our efforts to do everything in our power to stop the disengagement, which was his will and testament. And we will demand justice for Eden."

Associates of Zada's said he had deserted the military "since he could not bring himself to serve in an army that expels Jews from their homes."

They said Zada recently became religious and had left his home in Rishon Letzion to move to Tapuah, a known right-wing extremist hotbed.

The scene of the attack looked like a terror attack, with bus windows shattered and policemen with plastic gloves fingerprinting bodies on the

floor. Blood stained some of the seats on the bus and a policeman standing near one of the bodies appealed with a megaphone to the angry mob of

thousands to calm down.

A statement issued by the army said Cpl. Zada, went AWOL from the army in mid-June. Since then, officials have been in touch with his family in an effort to find him and return him to

service. Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz, who condemned the attack, ordered an investigation into how the soldier still had an

IDF-issued weapon in his possession.

Internal Security Minister Gideon Ezra called the shooting a "terrible terror attack" and appealed for calm among Israeli Arabs. Police Insp.-Gen.

Moshe Karadi warned from the scene that the killing could lead to further violence.

Police went on high alert Thursday night and called up all available personnel to the North. Security forces were deployed to the North from the South, Jerusalem and the West Bank.

An enraged witness to the incident said, "If this attack had occurred in a Jewish neighborhood and the attacker were Arab, he would have been killed

immediately. The police came and they didn't do anything!"

"The police didn't even shoot the attacker - they were holding him alive on the bus," he added.

Twelve people were wounded, four of them moderately, in the shooting, Rambam Medical Center deputy director-general Prof. Zvi Ben-Yishai said. Most of the injuries on the bus were due to burns and cuts from shattered glass.

A plainclothes official collects evidence at the scene as crowds gather outside.

Ben-Ya'acov said he knew Zada as "a soft-spoken [and] very pious Jew," adding that Tzuberi was "very interested in Judaism. He was a very special soul."

"We hope Eden's death will not have been in vain," said Ben-Ya'acov, "and that his murder will derail this sadistic disengagement plan." He demanded a police investigation of the shooter's murder by the crowd.

Ben-Ya'acov called Zada "the first casualty of the disengagement, which is tearing part the nation of Israel."

While the far-Right gingerly hailed Zada as a hero, the mainstream settlement movement condemned the act and was "shocked by the act in Shfaram that took the lives of innocents," according to a statement released by the

Council of Communities in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Ghazi Hamid, editor of the Hamas weekly Al-Risala, said Hamas "is committed to the withdrawal and will not respond to this incident."

Hebron spokesman David Wilder said "people do not believe that going out and shooting people is the answer to our questions. The proof of that is that

people don't go out and do it."

Margot Dudkevitch and Judy Siegel-Itzkovich contributed to the report.

I am watching the news in Hebrew from Israel... and am not just reading Arutz 7 or Jerusalem Post English stuff. Stuff is happening...

The rabi from Tapuach sounds like the head of Hamas!

This sounds like something Hamas would say!!!!!! As a matter of fact, nearly word-for-word.

Do you know that my wife and I vote right politically in Israel. We uplift the government's right to fight terror at all costs. We were happy for Israel's sake when we heard about Yassin's assasination by the army, and then his successors. We agree with the seperation wall. We are right moderately. We strongly disagree with the left. We are very pro-Israel and do not believe in returning to the '67 line. We believe Israel is demonized by the media without justice. We look to favor Israel's reputation.

However, there is a demonic spirit of zealotry with the settlers that as believers we need not to agree with. Yeshua rebuked such zealotry. Seeing Israel's salvation is a much bigger issue than the land issue.

Try to watch the news in Hebrew and see the settlers hate speech of Palestinians. Go to a "Beitar Illit" soccer game and see the hatred in the settlers eyes. See what happened in ShfarAm this weekend and how the rabis praised it.

One incident and the "settlers" are showing their true colors?

Over 5,000 bombs in two years, babies, BABIES shot and killed by, not bombs, but SNIPERS. Give me a break, the Isaraelis are not the ones with the history of extreme hatred.

I do not condone the actions of this man, nor anyone who attacks civilians. However, to suggest that such hatred is the "true colors of the settlers" is sheer ridiculousness.

Amen masslogic!

I wonder how we would handle everything we've built, sweat, and paid for in our entire lives being taken...knowing our enemies would get it and rejoice over our losses.

It is amazing that only ONE person has gone off the deep end so far.

I can't find reports of anyone but Sharon who thinks this is a good plan. He's only doing it as a political payback to Bush.

And Bush is going to double-cross him.

Yod, I think you are the first person on these boards to refer to me in normal english

I agree. If the Canadians had been shelling and bombing Michigan and NY for the past few years, how many Canadians do you think wouldve died by now at the hands of Americans?

Wasn't it the "settlers" that killed the man for what he did?

What he did was wrong, horrible, and I'm glad justice came to him quickly. Any Jew that tries to advocate what he did was "right" or "just" should likewise have justice come to them. Yet, to say that because of this one event true colors have been shown...well...wait a minute...it is true. Israel delivered justice to this man quickly, they did not celebrate in what he did and did not make him a hero. A few radical zealots have come out in support, yet many Jewish blogs that I read from Israel have condemned these zealots as well....yet are also against pulling out of Gaza. There are zealots in Israel that are wrong, and should have no voice, no doubt about that. At the same time, the true colors were shown. One of Israel's own committed a terrorist action against the Arab (first time since 1990) population and the Jewish population delivered justice for it. So yes, the true colors were shown, they were shown that contrary to popular belief, Jews in Israel respect life and justice.

As for the question of Canadians and US...let's make it a bit more realistic.

Israel: On a land that was occupied by Arabs, but originally belonged to them.

US: On land that belonged to Native Americans and never belonged to us.

So what if a few Native Americans one day blew up a bus in New York City and then began committed terrorist actions against the US? HIstory shows we would go on a genocidal raid against them and try to kill them off or into submission.

What if a few Palestinians blow up a bus in Tel Aviv and then begin committing terrorist actions against Israel? The US tells Israel to give up land to appease them and to go back to the 1947 border.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
