If I am not mistaken, Tertullian himself - at the end of his career - became Montanist himself.

Along with Irenaeus and others, the writers of the later New Testament books seem to have opposed early gnosticism. The supporters of what would become orthodox Christianity stressed the need to adhere to tradition, which was attested by the churches of apostolic foundation. A more hazardous reply was to appeal to ecstatic prophecy. About 172 CE a quasi-pentecostal movement in Phrygia was led by Montanus with two prophetesses, Prisca and Maximilla, reasserting the imminence of the end of the world. He taught that there was an age of the Father (Old Testament), an age of the Son (New Testament), and an age of the Spirit (heralded by the prophet Montanus). Montanism won its chief convert in Tertullian.

The various endings of Mark have been touched on in this thread.

There are many theories - one even that the "original ending" after 16:8 was like, TORN OFF or something.

One manuscript contained the "Freer Logion" - not in any other manuscript but quoted by Jerome.

In any case, we see Mary Magdalene being with Salome and the other Mary - and all of a sudden in verse 9 Magdalene is by herself.

I don't know what all to believe about various endings of Mark, but it is unusual if the gospel ended at verse 8.

Tertullian is said to have been the first ECF to use the term "Trinity" - and he delineated it as Father, Word and Holy Ghost - rather than the Father, Son and Holy Ghost which later was used.

Mark is now generally looked on as the first of the synoptics to be written - this was not always the case.

John Wesley looked on Mark as a briefer summary of Matthew, written later, but that view is not held much anymore.

The "primacy of Mark" seems to hold the field now - Matthew and Luke USED Mark and added parts of the mythical "Q" to make their gospels.

Mark 16:9-20 has been called a later addition to the Gospel of Mark by most New Testament scholars in the past century. The main reason for doubting the authenticity of the ending is that it does not appear in some of the oldest existing witnesses, and it is reported to be absent from many others in ancient times by early writers of the Church. Moreover, the ending has some stylistic features which also suggest that it came from another hand. The Gospel is obviously incomplete without these verses, and so most scholars believe that the final leaf of the original manuscript was lost, and that the ending which appears in English versions today (verses 9-20) was supplied during the second century. Below are some excerpts from various scholarly sources that conclude that the verses are a later addition.

OK--I read through the thread and hid a bunch of posts that are off topic and or caustic in nature.

Let's stop bashing an entire group of Christians and instead discuss theology using scripture as our guide.

Ones can disagree on doctrine and practice, but to go on and on attacking is not good for anyone.

14 hours ago, Paul James said:

It is the Holy Spirit who is inside your spirit.  He is the one who transformed you and is continuing the work to conform you to the image of Christ.  The Father and Christ are in heaven.   But Jesus said that having the Holy Spirit indwelling you is the same as having the Father and the Son, because they are absolutely one in unity, so whatever the Holy Spirit teaches you, it will be exactly the same as Jesus teaching you, and He will teach you only what He has received from the Father.

So, in that sense, having the Holy Spirit indwelling you representing the Father and the Son, makes it true that the Father and the Son are living within you in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

There are a few things in your post that are not representing the relevant scriptures.

There different ways to say the same thing or come to the same conclusion but there are some things in your post that you have gone over the boundaries.

I am going to look up the relevant scriptures and post them and take it from there. I do not thing you are going to mind if I post the scriptures.

First and I may not have to bring to your attention that our Lord is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the Savior and Lord.

Jesus Christ is the one who died for us, and when we believe we partake of his Life giving Spirit by DEFAULT.

When we believe his Life come to us and never leave us as long as we believe.

Also by DEFAULT we are in his righteousness.

We have our own righteousness but let's not forget that we are also in his righteousness.

To be in him in his Life it includes that we are in his righteousness because we paid homage to him that's it we believe in him.

The Heavenly Father made Jesus Christ Lord over all other Lords.

When we read that every knee shall bow down to him, it includes that Jesus Christ is above all.

Our Lord is Jesus Christ not the Heavenly Father.

By large the Holy Spirit is active in our life, and not only the Holy Spirit but also Angels are active in our lives (they are our guardians) a lot more that we think and expect.

Too often some times.

We also have being given and as we go about our lives we are given spiritual gifts in our heart, that helps us and guide us from within.

The Holy Spirit if we yield to it is helping us to conform to the propose Jesus Christ has for us.

We are call to become or to grow to the person Jesus Christ has proposed for us to be, everyone has a different role, everyone is different and unique from one another.

Even that it is too strong to say it.

As Jesus Christ let us have our own way and follow in our own direction.

He does not reject us if we do, but he comes along to help us just like a friend.

The Heavenly Father has given everything to Jesus Christ has given him all authority and one of them is that he is and only him to be our Lord.

Thanks.  I am sure you are sincere, hut your long explanation was too much to follow.  Jesus coming to poor and desperate people cannot be that complicated.

Jacob,

Fifty to sixty years ago there was a revival in the Netherlands, in which within Pentecostal circles in the Netherlands and Belgium special attention was paid to the doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven.

In addition to practicing the gifts of the Holy Ghost (charismata), the necessity and value of studying the Bible was rediscovered.

It was in one such church where I and my fiancé (now my wife) came.
As a result, there was a great deal of talk and prayer on Biblical topics.  It was a wonderful time, in which we received much blessing from the Lord Jesus.

But people moved, some old people died, strange teachers came in, and after years there wasn't much left of that church.

What struck me afterwards when looking for another church was the lack of knowledge of the Bible among the children of God.  (Hos.4:6)
As a result of this lack of knowledge, so many "Pentecostal Christians" just clung to the old worn out dogmas of the traditional church in their heads!
The sad result of this is that also the Pentecostal Christian has no victory over sin, and is therefore unable to show a holy way of life.

There is a lot of talk about renewal and liberation because there's such a great hunger for it, but because of incorrect education (!) the well-meaning believer can hardly show anything of this in his daily life.
That reality is noticed by the person himself and by others, which in turn leads to great disappointment and discouragement!

There are a number of concrete points that prevent the (Pentecostal) Christian from growing and causes falling back into sin over and over again:

1. The traditional teaching of man's sinful nature, even if he/she has repented and became a Christian (!), is not disproved and rejected.

2. The original sin theory does not appear in the Bible, but it is maintained nonetheless!

3. The corruption of man is equated with that of the devil.  Even his conversion to the Lord Jesus and baptism by immersion cannot change that!  It is therefore not surprising to them that all (born again) Christians also continue to sin, that was to be expected.

4. As a sin slave they are said to have been redeemed by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus, but out of impotence they remain with sin and in fact they are still a prisoner!
So one is supposedly no longer a slave but nevertheless, albeit "voluntarily", one remains in prison.

How long do God's children still have to accept these lies, before they realize that with this the devil keeps them bound?

May the Lord Jesus enlighten your mind, that the truth may make you completely free. (Jh.8:32)

God bless.

Perhaps these hapless Christians were thing much too often in terms of "may." Or, even in terms of "let," as they would presume to "let God" do some things?

Everyone is equal before the Lord that what Paul teach but according to the culture of that time he had to put the women in their corner, sometimes even the men had to be put in their corner.

The men insulted  accused and beat up and called names the Son of Life that is Jesus Christ.

Do you know what Jesus said: for which miracle you are doing this to me?

The women always helped Jesus Christ.

Look at the stories of the NT, they women help him with everything.

Women have the seed of the Gospel of the life and have Spiritual children unto the Lord and do not need men for that.

Even single men have the seed of Life of the Gospel and bring children unto Jesus Christ the Lord of Life.

Bless them when they speak about Jesus Christ and do not forbid, forbid your self if you want but do not forbid others to hear about Jesus Christ, to sing a song unto him and to pray.

One minister got sick and died, another one had an accident, another was murder.

It's not because of sins, we are not in the old testament.

Jesus Christ said about the man who was born blind.

Neither his parents sin nor himself.

Think about the mindset of the people of that time, how they are looking to blame someone.

Is it soundness to accused someone who was borned blind that it is the result of his sins.

And when before he was born? While he was in the womb?

Think about that, do not manufacture facts in your mind.

Man's mind is a never stopping factory of manufacturing a lot of things, and one of them facts on assumptions.

Never ending facts of assumptions and if you do not agree with them you become the object of their wrath.
